Be aware of suspicious phone calls; scammers targeting ATCO customers
We’ve been made aware of suspicious activity where scammers are targeting ATCO Electric customers via phone calls. These scammers often pose as ATCO representatives and threaten to disconnect or withhold power unless customers provide them with payment.
This is a scam - please be cautious and aware of this suspicious activity.
Note that ATCO Electric would NEVER ask customers for payment, as they do not collect money directly from customers for utility bills. ATCO Electric will NEVER ask you to provide payment by any method, including by telephone or in-person.
Funding will help to expand opportunities for women in the trucking industry
The Alberta Government is hoping to help cut down on job vacancies in the trucking industry by helping to pay for training.
Currently, there are roughly 4,260 transport truck driver job vacancies throughout Alberta.
With only 2.9 per cent of the commercial trucker workforce being women, the Alberta government is hoping to increase that number to help fulfill those vacancies.
Wildfire season in Alberta starts now
This year's wildfire season will start 10 days earlier than usual, according to the province's announcement on Tuesday afternoon. In addition to the early declaration, Forestry and Parks is preparing for additional firefighters.
If passed, Budget 2024 will include funding to hire 100 new firefighters, which will result in five additional 20-person crews.

Canada opens Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office in the Philippines.
Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay has officially opened Canada's Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office in the Philippines.
"I’m so pleased to be in Manila to open Canada’s first-ever Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office. We export nearly half of what we produce in Canada and the global demand continues to grow. Good news for potato growers
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's 2023 National Survey for Potato Wart shows the pest was not detected in any of the soil samples tested.
Over 2000 soil samples were collected from fields in key potato-growing areas like PEI, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
The national survey results have been provided to provinces, the Canadian Potato Council, and the United States Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
