Drop and Swap is back October 16-19

The City of Grande Prairie, in cooperation with Aquatera Utilities Inc., and with support from Goodwill Industries of Alberta is hosting this year’s Drop & Swap event October 16-19.

The Drop & Swap event is a fashionably free community initiative promoting sustainability and waste reduction. Participants are invited to either ‘drop’ new or gently used clothing or ‘swap’ and discover new pieces to refresh their wardrobe.

No one hurt during weekend blaze

The City of Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the east side of the city on Saturday, September 21st.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, which had resulted in heavy smoke filling the premises.

Fire crews acted quickly to extinguish the blaze, but the home sustained significant damage. Fortunately, neighboring properties remained unaffected.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Grande Prairie transit unveils new heated bus stop shelters at transit hub

City of Grande Prairie Transit has completed the installation of two new heated bus stop shelters at the Transit Hub near Towne Centre Mall as of Tuesday, September 17.

These new shelters, along with existing heated shelters at Northwest Polytechnic and the Community Knowledge Campus, provide transit users with added comfort and protection from the elements, especially during colder months.

County Regional Fire Service seeks rural paid responders for firefighter and medical roles

The County Regional Fire Service is seeking dedicated individuals from rural areas to join our team as paid response firefighters and medical first responders. Only those living within 15 kilometres of our stations in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek, and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley can apply.  

RCMP seek witnesses in Grande Prairie hit-and-run involving 13-year-old pedestrian

Grande Prairie RCMP are seeking any witnesses to a hit and run that took place on Sept. 14, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m. on 108 Avenue between 103 and 104 Street, in Grande Prairie. RCMP responded to a complaint on that evening of a hit and run involving a blue sedan and a 13-year-old pedestrian.  Despite being thrown into air, the pedestrian fortunately suffered only minor injuries and was treated and released by EMS on scene.

After hitting the pedestrian, the male driver,  stopped his vehicle, apologized and then fled the scene.  The suspect vehicle is described as;

Tauren Wells' son baptized amongst almost 300 at singer's church

It was an eventful weekend at the Church of Whitestone in Texas after dozens of people started a new life in Christ. 

The church, planted and pastored by singer and songwriter, Tauren Wells, held a baptism service on Sunday. 

"We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone getting baptized starting their new life in Christ!" said the church in a post on Instagram. "Going to be a day filled with transformation, overflowing joy, and faith in action! WE CANT WAIT!!"

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that at a time when the world faces increasing instability, leaders have a choice: bury their heads in the sand or put their differences aside for the sake of future generations.

"We can recognize that, collectively, we have a responsibility to set our differences aside, to confront the serious global challenges, and to deliver on a pact for the future," Trudeau said at the Summit of the Future in New York on Sunday. 

6-year-old girl missing near Burns Lake, B.C., since Thursday found safe

A 6-year-old girl who had been missing from her community in north-central British Columbia since Thursday has been found safe. 

Resources from across the province were enlisted in the search to find the child who lives in a small community not far from Burns Lake.

The girl, who is on the autism spectrum and non-verbal, was found on Sunday night around 6 p.m.

Lauren Daigle joins Andrea Bocelli for 30th anniversary
