Criticism of Charles Adler's Senate appointment includes federal cabinet minister

The appointment of longtime broadcaster Charles Adler to the Senate is being criticized in some quarters, including by a member of the federal cabinet.

Adler, who spent decades hosting talk-radio shows, was named to the Senate on the weekend by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and will represent Manitoba. 

Dan Vandal, the minister of northern affairs, has issued a brief one-sentence statement that says there are many Manitobans better suited to represent the province.

City of Grande Prairie begins road rehabilitation on 84 Avenue and 116 Street

Starting August 21, the City of Grande Prairie begins a comprehensive road rehabilitation project on 84 Avenue and 116 Street. This project aims to address current and future traffic demands while enhancing the quality of the road infrastructure. The work will proceed in three stages, with an expected completion date in the first week of October.

Boil Water Advisory issued for areas within Town of Fairview

Due to an issue with the water system in the Town of Fairview, Alberta Health Services (AHS), has issued a boil water advisory for areas within the community, as a precautionary measure.

The affected area for this advisory includes homes located on 116 Street between 103 Avenue and 105 Avenue.

All residents and businesses in the affected area are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to any consumption, including:

Days after wildfire evacuation ends, Jasper makes progress on path back to normal

The people of Jasper are making progress on getting back to normal after being allowed back to their town, cleaning their homes, re-uniting with neighbours and seeking insurance information.

Friday was the first day residents were allowed back after a wildfire forced the evacuation of the entire community, which eventually lost close to one third of its structures in the blaze.
