Ottawa remembers reservist killed in Parliament Hill attack one decade later

Ottawa marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament Hill Tuesday, but for the family of the reservist who was killed that day the memory is still raw.

"I can't believe it's been 10 years. It felt like it was yesterday," said Ephraim Cirillo after a private family ceremony held at the National War Memorial Tuesday morning.

NWP recognizes remarkable community contributors at President’s Ball

More than 450 local leaders, valued community members, dedicated sponsors, and supporters gathered this past weekend at Evergreen Park for Northwestern Polytechnic’s 37th annual President’s Ball. 

The evening, which traditionally features a memorable celebration of post-secondary achievements and enduring regional support, included a nod to local difference-makers with the incorporation of NWP’s Community Alumni Awards ceremony, and the Governor General’s Academic medal presentation for students. 

Grande Prairie RCMP investigating found human remains

On Oct. 21, 2024, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of found human remains in an undeveloped area situated northwest of the city. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the discovery of an unidentified deceased female. 

Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section, in consultation with the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, has taken carriage of the investigation. An autopsy will be completed on Oct. 23, 2024, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.  

Current water service disruption in Teepee Creek

The County of Grande Prairie wishes to advise residents of Teepee Creek that a critical water leak repair is scheduled to begin revised date of October 22, 2024, at 3:30pm.

This repair requires a temporary shutdown of the water supply to the entire hamlet for approximately 2 hours.

Municipal Utilities staff are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Hythe water service disruption

The County of Grande Prairie would like to inform residents of Hythe that a valve replacement project is currently in progress. The work is initially being carried out in the area South of 106 Street, along 104 and 101 Avenue, and north of 105 Street.

As part of this project, the first planned water outage will take place on revised date of October 23rd and is expected to last approximately six hours. Further updates for future ongoing outages will be provided as soon as they become available.

GP Storm add veteran D-Man Palmieri

The Grande Prairie Storm are proud to announce the signing of 2004 born defenceman Damian Palmieri.

The Delta , BC product is coming to the GP Storm from the WHL Vancouver Giants, where he has spent the previous 3 seasons. Damian was a 4th round, 87th overall Bantam pick by the Giants back in 2019. Since then, he has suited up for a total of 129 regular season games with the Giants, scoring 5 goals 11 assist, and racking up 231 penalty minutes. The 6’1 190-pound Palmieri also suited up for 17 playoff games over the 3 seasons, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists.

'They ran to Jesus': Over 100 incarcerated women baptized in Las Vegas maximum security prison

Around 200 women took part in a recent prison revival in Las Vegas.

Best-selling author and speaker, Jennie Allen and the God Behind Bars team, visited the maximum-security women's prison over the weekend. 

"There were 200 women in the room, and all but a few accepted Christ," said Allen. "Not just accepted Christ. They ran to Jesus."
