Street closure near GP Regional Hospital pending for August 11 to 24

110 Street is closed from just north of the Great Northern Casino entrance to 109 Avenue from August 11 to 24, or until work is complete.

The closure supports deep utility tie-ins for the Ken Sargent House project. Work is taking place directly adjacent to the site, and closing this section of road is necessary to complete underground connections.

This portion of 110 Street serves as a secondary access point to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and parkade. Access from 109 Avenue remains open throughout the closure.

Fort St. John drug trafficking investigation leads to two arrests

A drug trafficking investigation has led to two arrests, a search warrant, and a seizure of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

On July 31, 2025, a Fort St John RCMP Street Enforcement Team (SET) drug trafficking investigation culminated with a search warrant for a residence on 103 Avenue in Fort St John, BC. The investigation followed the arrest of two individuals who had allegedly been selling drugs within the community.

Peace River RCMP makes arrest in armed robbery investigation

On July 15, 2025, Peace River RCMP received a complaint regarding an armed robbery at a residence. RCMP responded immediately but the suspect had already fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that this was a targeted incident, with the suspect later identified and subsequently arrested on Aug. 7, 2025.

Release date for Passion of the Christ sequel announced

More than two decades after the original release, Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ sequel is set to be released in two parts. 

Debuting on Good Friday 2027 will be The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One. Then, 40 days later on Ascension Day, part two will be released. 

The Passion of the Christ grossed $370 million in North America after its 2004 debut and over $610 million worldwide. 

Mobile mammography service to visit Valleyview, Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

Primary Care Alberta’s Screen Test program will be in Valleyview and Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation next month to provide screening mammograms to eligible individuals aged 45 to 74.

A mobile mammography trailer will be at the following locations:

  • Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation: Health Centre parking lot

    • Sept. 5 and 8

  • Valleyview: Valleyview Health Centre (43 East Highway Street)

    • Sept. 9-13

Advance polls open in Alberta byelection with 214 candidates, historic blank ballots

Advance polls in a historic federal byelection for Alberta's Battle River-Crowfoot open today.

For the first time ever, Elections Canada says voters must fill out a blank ballot.

The agency lists a record 214 candidates running in the rural riding, with voting day on Aug. 18.

The majority are part of the Longest Ballot Committee, a protest group calling for various changes to Canada's electoral system.

Métis leaders strike note of optimism after meeting with Carney on major projects

Métis leaders left a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday saying they're confident they will be included in talks about major projects Ottawa hopes to use to bolster the economy in the face of a trade war with the United States.

"When things really matter, Métis governments come together and we get the work done," said Métis Nation of Ontario president Margaret Froh.

Twenty-five children rescued after missing child operation in Florida

The Tim Tebow Foundation, alongside many partners and a few dogs, are praising God after locating and rescuing 25 missing children. 

"We are grateful to have supported our partner, the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF), in collaboration with law enforcement, nonprofits, and private-sector experts, to host the Northeast Florida Missing Child Rescue Operation," says the Tim Tebow Foundation on Instagram. 

The task force spent three days, and in that time, rescued 25 children who were previously missing and endangered.
