Sikh groups call for Indian consulates to be shut down in Vancouver, Toronto

Representatives of a British Columbia Sikh temple whose president was shot dead last year, as well as the Sikh independence group he was involved in, say their communities won't feel safe until India's consulates in Vancouver and Toronto are shut down.

That's after the Canadian government expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, and the RCMP announced on Monday it had evidence of their alleged involvement in crimes including homicide and extortion targeting the so-called Khalistan independence movement.

Maverick City Music faces backlash after recent collaboration with secular rap artist

Maverick City Music is facing plenty of backlash following a recent collaboration with a rap artist.

The five-time Grammy award-winning and six-time Dove award-winning worship collective is featured on a song on GloRilla's latest album Glorious alongside, Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore and Kierra Sheard.

The song, 'Rain Down on Me' is the only song on the 15-track album that doesn't feature explicit or inappropriate lyrics. 

After hearing this news, fans of Maverick City quickly took to social media to react.

Minister says Canadian Forces to help stranded Air India passengers in Iqaluit

Canada's emergency preparedness minister says the passengers of an Air India flight that landed in Iqaluit due to a bomb threat remain stuck there, and he has approved a request for the military to help them.

Harjit Sajjan posted on X late Tuesday that the airline "hasn't found a solution" after the plane landed in Nunavut's capital with 211 passengers on board earlier in the day and that they are "stranded."

City of Grande Prairie begins tree pruning program for fall and winter

The City of Grande Prairie’s annual fall and winter tree pruning program is now underway through the remainder of October until April of 2025.

City crews conduct elm pruning between October 1 and March 31 each year, aligning with the provincial elm pruning ban that extends from April 1 to September 30.

 

Zipper merge on 100 Ave in Grande Prairie starts today

Starting Today, October 15, the City of Grande Prairie is implementing a zipper merge on 100 Avenue to improve traffic flow during ongoing bridge work.

The change affects commuters traveling westward from the downtown core.

100 Avenue, a key westbound route, will shift from two lanes to one near the bridge using the zipper merge technique. Signage will be in place along 100 Avenue, informing drivers of the upcoming merge before the merge point near the bridge.
