Collision on Highway 43 claims life of five-year-old Clairmont resident

On Saturday, July 6, just before 3pm, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 43 at the intersection of Highway 43X, where a five-year-old Clairmont resident lost their life.

The accident involved five vehicles, including two pickups, an SUV, and a semi, struck by an eastbound Ford F350 pick-up truck.

Extremely hot temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows of 14 degrees Celsius or greater are expected until at least mid week.

Daytime highs will gradually increase to near 35 degrees Celsius by Wednesday for many regions of Alberta. Overnight lows in the mid teens will not provide much relief from the heat.

Vatican excommunicates Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano for schism

The Vatican on Friday excommunicated the outspoken Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, its former ambassador to Washington, finding him guilty of schism after repeatedly questioning Pope Francis’ authority.

The Italian prelate had in recent years become one of Francis’ harshest critics. 

The Holy See’s doctrinal office announced the sanction following a meeting on Thursday. They informed Vigano of their decision the following day. 

Ukrainian churches seek Christ in the darkness as Russia targets power grid

For Ukrainian churches, the answer is yes.

The latest Russian attacks targeted Ukraine’s power grids. Eric Mock with Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) says, “They are dealing with rolling blackouts. People are suffering in the heat many nights with no power in the middle of the fear and anxiety that comes along with it.”

Trudeau to tell allies to stay resolute as Ukraine at centre of NATO summit

Canada will be reassuring allies of its commitment to the western alliance as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau travels to Washington, D.C., this week to take part in the NATO leaders' summit at a critical time for war-ravaged Ukraine. 

The 32 NATO countries are set to mark the alliance's 75th anniversary in the same city where the initial treaty was signed. Trudeau will be attending a dinner with NATO leaders at the White House hosted by President Joe Biden as the age and mental acuity of the United States leader is expected to cast a shadow over the historic meeting.
