Single vehicle collision in Whitecourt affects traffic flow

Whitecourt RCMP are currently on scene at a single vehicle collision on 51 street and Highway 43 in Whitecourt.  Traffic is being affected in all directions. Motorists are unable to access Highway 43 from 51 Street and traffic is being re-routed in the area.  Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.

An update will be provided once the area becomes passable, and once further details on the collision become available.

Northwestern Polytechnic is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tyler May and Mr. Mike McMann, along with the reappointment of Ms. Heather Kerschbaumer to the Board of Governors. These three-year terms were officially confirmed by a Government of Alberta Order in Council on June 20, 2024.

The celebrations kick off with the Canada Day parade, move to Muskoseepi Park with all-day activities for all ages and cap off with fireworks over the reservoir.

The Canada Day parade begins at Hillside School at 2 p.m., travels down 96 Street and 100 Avenue, ending at the Northwestern Polytechnic parking lot.

Mackenzie County issues evacuation alert for Zama

Mackenzie County has issued an evacuation notice (alert) for Zama. 

Please avoid the area and do not use drones in the vicinity of Zama City. 

Alberta Wildfire personnel, aircraft and equipment operators are continuing to respond to this wildfire, which is currently out of control — meaning the wildfire is burning and is expected to continue growing. The fire remains approximately 8.5 km southwest of Zama City and is estimated to cover about 3,200 hectares (ha). The cause of this wildfire remains under investigation.

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools announce new Ward 1 Trustee

Grande Prairie & District Catholic School Division is pleased to announce that Dwight Zenner is the new Trustee for Ward 1 (Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and area).

Dwight was elected on June 25, 2024 as per the Local Authorities Election Act. He will attend Trustee Orientation in August 2024, and will be sworn in at the Board's Organizational Meeting on August 26, 2024.
