Cheering fans jam Edmonton plaza as Oilers force winner-take-all Stanley Cup final

Thousands of deliriously happy fans of the Edmonton Oilers roared as one Friday as the hometown blue and orange ran over the Florida Panthers to set up a winner-take-all Game 7 in the Stanley Cup final.

“We want the cup! We want the cup!” chanted fans inside Rogers Place, while the Oilers circled at centre ice with sticks skyward saluting all after the 5-1 win.

If the Edmonton Oilers can show off their trademark resilience just one more time, they will make Stanley Cup history.

Depth forward Warren Foegele had a goal and an assist as the Oilers forced a decisive Game 7 in this year's Cup final with a 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Friday in front of a raucous Rogers Place crowd.

The win moved the Oilers closer to breaking Canada's Cup curse and has Edmonton on the cusp of becoming just the second team to come back from a 3-0 deficit in the final.

The PCDMN is a coordinated field crop disease monitoring program for the Prairies, focusing on providing timely information about crop diseases and highlighting effective disease management strategies.

GPPS holds graduation ceremony for first Experienced Officer class

Another milestone in the transition to a municipal police service for the City of Grande Prairie has been reached with the graduation of the Grande Prairie Police Service’s first-ever Experienced Officer class. A ceremony was held the morning of June 21, 2024, at the Teresa Sargent Hall in front of a crowd of dignitaries, colleagues, and family. 

CN rail is reporting strong grain movement in June

CN's Assistant Vice-President of Grain, David Przednowek says they saw strong movement early in June.

"We're about a half million tonnes of processed grain products shipped in week 45, pushing 550,000 tonnes in week 46."

He points out that compared to historical levels, those are both pretty strong weeks. 

Przednowek says going forward into July, he expects to see a slowdown in grain movement as a number of the export terminals and canola processing plants start their maintenance shutdowns.

The federal government supports affordable housing in Spirit River

The federal government is supporting a combined investment of more than $10.3 million to build a new affordable apartment building in Spirit River, providing 24 homes for seniors in the community.

The announcement was made today by George Chahal, Member of Parliament for Calgary Skyview, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, and Judy Kokotilo-Bekkerus, Grande Spirit Foundation Chair.
