Minnesota driver causes multi-vehicle crash in Winnipeg

A 63-year-old man from St. Paul, Minnesota is in custody following a collision late Saturday afternoon. 

The multi-vehicle collision happened just before 5 p.m. near Waverley Street and the Perimeter Highway.

Winnipeg police say the man, who was impaired at the time, was travelling east on the Perimeter Highway in a 2021 Honda Ridgeline and failed to stop at the intersection of Waverley Street, colliding with the rear of another vehicle, causing a multi-vehicle collision.

Carney campaigning in his Ottawa riding today, Poilievre in Winnipeg

Liberal Leader Mark Carney will be campaigning in Nepean today, the Ottawa riding where he is seeking election.

Carney, who has not yet served as an MP, is expected to meet with volunteers in the riding at 10 a.m.

Carney has faced questions about his decision to run in Nepean, which became vacant only after the Liberal party ousted MP Chandra Arya as its candidate three days before the election was called.

City crews out to plow major streets, sidewalks, and pathways

City plows are hard at work after parts of Winnipeg woke up to 30 cm of snow on Friday morning. 

Crews are out plowing major streets, pathways, and sidewalks. They are also applying salt to help improve traction. 

The plowing schedule is determined by the street priority system.

The City is reminding motorists to drive to conditions and use extreme caution when near heavy equipment.

There are no current winter parking bans in effect.

Busy West End street closed for police investigation

A section of a busy West End street is closed Friday afternoon for a police investigation.

Several police crusiers, the Forensics Unit and yellow tape can be seen surrounding an area near Home Street and Wellington Avenue. 

As a result, Wellington Avenue is closed between Arlington Street and Simcoe Street.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and find another route.

Celebrating World Piano Day in Fort Garry

Every year since 2015, musicians all over the world have paid tribute to one of the most beloved instruments ever created. 

World Piano Day is celebrated on the 88th day of the year to mark the 88 keys that make up the modern instrument. Danny Carroll will be touching each one of those keys as he offers up a World Piano Day tribute concert in Winnipeg this weekend.
