Annual Teddy Bears' Picnic returns this fall to help ease hospital fears for children

The teddy bears picnic is back for another exciting year. 

After a four-year hiatus, the popular event returned last year, celebrating its 35th anniversary. 

Scott McDonald is the chair of the Teddy Bears' Picnic steering committee. He says this year's event will again take place in the fall. 

"It's going to be Sunday, Sept. 7, and it's going to be at the same place it's been for the last number of years, the beautiful Assiniboine Park," said McDonald.

Historic Manitoba church-turned-home up for sale

Canada focusing on peace, energy security and new partnerships at G7 meeting: Carney

Canada has unveiled its priorities for the G7 leaders' summit just one week before it gets underway in Alberta as the government defends its decision to invite India to the summit.

Prime Minister Mark Carney's office says Ottawa's top priority for the summit will be strengthening global peace and security, which includes countering foreign interference and transnational crime, as well as improving responses to wildfires.

House fire on Manitoba Avenue sends 2 people to hospital

Two people are in hosptial following a fire Sunday afternoon.

The blaze broke out just before 1:40 p.m. in a single-storey home in thr 100 block of Manitoba Avenue.

The fire was extinguished before crews arrived. However, firefighters still checked over the scene for hot spots.

Everyone in the house evacuated before fire crews arrived. Three people were assessed by paramedics, and two were taken to hospital, one in unstable condition and the other in stable condition. 

It's believed the fire was caused by unattended cooking.

Funnel clouds possible in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba today

Environment Canada warns of possible landspout tornadoes

A special weather statement has been issued for a broad swath of southern Manitoba, warning of conditions favourable for the development of funnel clouds on Sunday.

The alert applies to multiple regions, including Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Morden-Winkler, Steinbach, Selkirk-Gimli, and communities stretching east to the Whiteshell and north to Fisher River and Hecla.

RWB's Julian Pellicano appointed to top post in B.C. orchestra

Julian Pellicano, conductor and music director of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, has been named the new music director and conductor of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO).

Pellicano was selected following "a rigorous, year-long audition process" that saw four finalists conduct during the 2024-2025 season, the OSO says in a release. He emerged from a pool of 30 applicants to become only the sixth music director in the OSO’s 65-year history.

Murphy ties franchise home record as Goldeyes drop series opener

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (11-15) fell 6-2 to the Kansas City Monarchs (18-7) Friday evening at Blue Cross Park in the opener of a three-game weekend series.

Armed and dangerous suspect wanted in downtown Winnipeg homicide

Police are warning the public not to approach a man wanted for murder, who may be armed and is considered dangerous.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder has been issued for 33-year-old Paul Xavier Bonnick.

He is accused in the death of 39-year-old Ralph Moise, who was found seriously injured in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue on May 23 around 1 a.m.

Officers with Central District General Patrol located Moise on the ground suffering from upper-body injuries.
