The cast of Godspell says they are looking forward to bringing the musical to life for the community. 

The musical is directed by Steinbach Arts Council’s David Klassen and Jeremy Plett with a talented cast of local performers.  

Godspell was created in the 1970s and is based on the gospel of Matthew.  

Cole Recksiedler will be playing Jesus. 

“It’s definitely a daunting role, for sure,” he says. 

The Steinbach Curling Club is trying to bounce back from the dip in numbers from the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Don Neufeld, executive of the curling club, says he wants to see the community try curling. 

A new gallery, a new campaign and celebrating milestones are some things on MHV’s (Mennonite Heritage Village) to-do list for 2024. 

Executive director Gary Dyck says 2024 is a big year for them. 

“It's the 150-year anniversary of the Mennonite’s first arrival in Manitoba, and it will be the museum’s 60th anniversary. So that's very special,” Dyck says. 

The RM of Piney and Buffalo Point First Nation are on a mission to improve services to southeast Manitoba residents. 

Martin Van Osch, RM of Piney’s chief administrative officer, says they secured a Toyota Sienna hybrid van that seats seven passengers and will be used to provide transportation services in 2024.  

In mid-January of this past year, the RM of De Salaberry reeve cut the ribbon at the St. Malo Arena in front of community members and St. Malo Warriors players.  

This was to celebrate the completion of phase one of their major project, where they replaced the ice plant and added humidifiers to the arena. 

When students from École Héritage Immersion stepped into the Jolys Regional Library, they were amazed by the brand-new furniture and transformations, says the head librarian.  

Nicole Gregoire, Jolys Regional Library head librarian, says they have had a phenomenal 2023.  

Those who need a ride can ring in the new year with Operation Red Nose Steinbach/La Broquerie.  

Jo Anne Dalton says they are operating from Friday, Dec. 29 to Sunday, Dec. 31.  

She says it has been a great season, and they are prepared for New Year’s Eve—typically one of their busiest nights of the year.

Agape House’s Ribbons of Hope campaign has closed, and they announced that they raised over $4000 in total and $1400 with Clearview Co-op. 

Agape House in Steinbach is a place where individuals facing domestic violence can go to. Lisa Fast of Agape House says she is grateful for the community’s support in their mission. 

“Definitely exceeded what we thought we would raise, so it was really great to see that,” Fast says.
