Buyer found for North West Terminal grain business—now it’s up to shareholders on whether to accept the offer

Bunge Canada has put an offer on the table to purchase the North West Terminal (NWT) grain elevator in Unity.

A news release puts the purchase price at $27-million, but a final number will be disclosed to the approximately 800 NWT shareholders by the end of this week. The NWT terminal has not been buying grain for over a year due to several years of red ink caused by narrow margins and lower grain deliveries.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is looking for producer input on proposed changes to the Chronic Wasting Disease Control Program for farmed cervids.

The orginal program was designed to control CWD in farmed deer and elk populations through prevention and early detection, however we've seen CWD spread into new areas.

All charges dropped in Kindersley trial of Chief Donald Smoke

Chief Donald Smoke of Dakota Plains First Nation, has been cleared of all allegations and charges following a detailed review by the Crown Prosecution Service in Saskatchewan, bringing an end to a case that had deeply affected both his personal life and the community he serves.

The Crown, after examining the evidence, determined that the case should not proceed. In a statement released today, Chief Smoke expressed gratitude for what he called a 'considerate and detailed review' by prosecutors, crediting their diligence for preventing a drawn-out legal process.

Rosetown RCMP respond to collisions, suspicious activity and property damage

 Rosetown RCMP responded to several incidents between September 12 and 18, 2025, including traffic collisions, mischief complaints, and suspicious activity.

On September 12, police attended a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 7 near Tessier. Later that evening, officers investigated a deer-vehicle collision on the same highway. Rosetown RCMP also issued a 60-day roadside suspension and impounded a vehicle for three days following a traffic stop in the RM of Pleasant Valley, and laid charges in a mischief complaint involving a motor vehicle in Rosetown.

Weak investment, rapid population growth driving decline in Canadian living standards

Living standards for the average Canadian fell between 2020 and 2024 despite overall economic growth, marking the largest decline in GDP per person over a five-year period since the Great Depression, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

The report, Canada's "Ugly" Growth Experience, 2020–2024: Why GDP per Capita Declined while the Overall Economy Grew, finds that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per person—a key measure of living standards—dropped by 2.0 per cent during the period.
