Richard Dyke sentenced to 17 years in prison
In a historic sentence, Richard Dyke was sentenced to 17 years in prison for multiple sexual offences against children in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Brian Hendrickson is the longest sentence ever handed out in Saskatchewan for sexual offences against children.
Dyke, 48, was in the court and sat in the inmate’s box looking down for the majority of the proceedings.
Union says Canada Post offers 'fall short' as strike deadline nears
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees said the latest offers from the postal service "fall short" with hours to go until a looming strike deadline.
Canada Post meanwhile said Thursday it's already seeing mail volumes decline ahead of another possible labour disruption and is pushing for an urgent resolution.
Spokesperson Lisa Liu said Canada Post hasn't yet received a response from the union about its proposals issued a day earlier.
The postal service is ready to resume bargaining "as soon as possible" with a mediator at the table, she said.
Mauss settling into council role, focused on community’s future
Tom Mauss has been on Estevan city council for the past six months, and while he’s still adjusting, he said the experience has been positive overall.
“I’m settling into it. I’m not completely into it, because the learning curve is there, it’s quite a large learning curve, but it’s positive,” Mauss said.
He expressed gratitude for the mix of new and returning councillors on the current council.
Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels in Estevan
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is calling on Estevan residents to step forward and support the local Meals on Wheels program, which is in urgent need of volunteers.

Radiothon For Life raises record-breaking $250,000 for MRI project at St. Joseph's Hospital
The Radiothon For Life has once again seen strong support from the local community, with $252,044.32 being raised to support the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation here in Estevan.
Donations were accepted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a free lunch being held over noon and from 5 to 7 p.m.
This year, the funds raised are going towards the MRI project, which looks to bring an MRI machine to Estevan to cut down on wait times and speed up the growing wait list.

As spring turns into summer in Saskatchewan, it’s becoming increasingly common for residents to spot young animals alone in nature. But despite their apparent vulnerability, the best thing people can do is keep their distance, according to Conservation Officer Ted Glass.
“The real short answer is just to leave it alone,” said Glass. “There’s reasons why that animal is there, and very likely mum has put that animal there and told her kid to stay there. Don’t move. And they’ll be back.”
Latest charitable gaming grants give Estevan organizations over $26,000
The province of Saskatchewan has sent out money to community organizations as part of its charitable gaming grants program, administered by Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan. (LGS)
During the most recent round of funding, $2.1 million in charitable gaming grants were awarded in the fourth quarter of 2024-25, benefiting over 1,100 groups and organizations across the province.
Poilievre names 48 Conservative MPs as critics, announces House leadership team
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has named 73 MPs to his party's leadership team and critic roles ahead of next week's return to the House of Commons.
He has named 48 Conservative members of Parliament to critic roles, while another 14 will become associate critics.
Most of them are returning MPs, though some have been shuffled to new positions left by people who were not re-elected on April 28.

Canadians could soon find out if there will be another labour disruption at the national postal operator.
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees has said it is reviewing a set of proposals for urban workers, along with rural and suburban carriers.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued a 72-hour strike notice on Tuesday, and the deadline is Friday at midnight.
Canada Post says the new offers address several concerns, and it is offering a wage increase of 13.59 per cent over four years.
