CPKC had another strong week of grain delivery during Week 10 of the 2024-25 crop year, moving nearly 623,500 tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products October 6th through 12th.

Southeast Saskatchewan is set to bask in another mild weekend, with temperatures above seasonal averages before a significant cool-down next week. As residents enjoy the warmth, a shift in weather patterns is on the horizon, bringing the promise of typical fall conditions.
Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said today’s temperature will hover around the seasonal average of about 10 degrees.
Mathew Dubowski looking to bring fresh perspective, understanding to council race
While much of the race for city council is proposed of older residents, some young blood is also stepping into the ring with Mathew Dubowski running for a seat.
Dubowski, a 26-year-old who's lived his whole life in Estevan, says that in the past he has had a bad taste in his mouth from the city and was disappointed by it.
Now, he wants to be a part of change for the city and fight to make it better through the council.

Autumn migration brings in a new batch of birds
With the fall season, Saskatchewan sees numerous bird species passing through on their migration, others leaving for more southern locations, and some coming to stay for the winter.
A few of the province's winged winter residents include Canada geese, snow geese, sandhill cranes, juncos, a plethora of ducks, and even a handful of whooping cranes.
Jordan Rustad, conservation coordinator with Nature Saskatchewan, noted most of the province's at-risk species, such as the burrowing owl, have already moved farther south.
AFN vote on $47.8B child welfare reform deal doesn't pass after lengthy debate
First Nations chiefs have voted to reject a landmark $47.8-billion child welfare reform deal, reached in July with the Canadian government.
At a special chiefs assembly in Calgary hosted by the Assembly of First Nations, 267 out of 414 chiefs voted against a resolution in support of the deal after a lengthy debate that at points was emotionally charged as they argued either for or against it.
UPDATE: Subject of Amber Alert located, suspect arrested
An Amber Alert that had been issued early this evening by Waskesiu RCMP has been cancelled.
The Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a report at around 2 p.m. that a five-day-old baby had been taken from a residence on Montreal Cree Nation. RCMP officers responded and the investigation determined that the baby had been taken by the father.
A subsequent investigation led to an Amber Alert being issued at 5:08 p.m. The RCMP noted that the alert stated the baby was taken from the health clinic. The information was gathered during the initial response and was incorrect.
Rhyan Hagel looking to build trust with community if elected to city council
With a final list of nominees on the ballot for the Estevan city council election coming up this November, one candidate is hoping to get onto the council for the first time.
Rhyan Hagel is running for a position on the council, leveraging his experience in post-secondary political settings to drive him forward.
He says he has a vested interest in Estevan and its future.
