Beginning of weekend brings risk of serious storms in the southeast
The weekend is here, and for those looking to enjoy some summer activities, they may want to keep an eye on the sky as thunderstorms are rolling through. Already, a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for much of the southeast, with other areas already seeing major storms.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientist Christy Climenhaga says that the risk is mounting for our region.

Estevan kids went around the world without leaving the city
Children in Estevan have been traveling the globe this summer, without ever leaving the city. Through the Estevan Public Library’s TD Summer Reading Program, kids aged 5 to 12 have been diving into stories, crafts, and cultural experiences designed to spark imagination and build literacy.
“This is just a kids’ outdoor story time,” said Katie Ostrander, Summer Reading Program Coordinator. “We go to parks around Estevan and do story time with a craft afterwards that relates to the story.”
Glyphosate future is questionable
Glyphosate, a key product that is used by a number of farmers, could be coming to an end.
Bill Anderson, the CEO of Bayer, noted on Wednesday that the company will be forced to end its US production of glyphosate, unless regulatory or legal changes are made to prevent litigation.
Province raises over $24 million from oil & gas public offering, highest in a decade
The Saskatchewan government says that they've seen the strongest oil and natural gas public offering in a decade, after that wrapped up on August 5th. In total, that generated $24,312,738.26, all of which was generated by leases and exploration licenses.
The next highest amount for oil and natural gas offerings was in August of 2014, which posted around $48.4 million.
Estevan Motor Speedway introduces new races to fans with wingless sprint cars on the track this weekend
The Estevan Motor Speedway is gearing up for another racing weekend, this time featuring a new class of racecar hitting the track. This Saturday is the S&S Piling Equipment Solutions Ltd. Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprintcar Series, first for the speedway.

Updated provincial standards for flood risk helps with assistance should disaster strike
The province is aligning some of its flood safety standards in order to better coordinate with the federal government for flood assistance when tragedy strikes. To that end, a one-in-200-year flood standard will now apply to most residences in the province.

Splish splash and TikTok fun: EPYC’s creative programming keeps youth engaged
The Estevan Public Youth Centre is diving into the weekend with a water balloon event and free swim, followed by a TikTok-themed game night on Monday and a music and trivia collaboration later this month.
“Our water balloon Appaloosa evening is actually going to happen this evening at EPYC,” said Bonnie Chepil-Kvamme, co-executive director of EPYC. “So join us for some splish splash fun, and we're going to carry on with that water theme.”
The evening will continue with a free swim at the Estevan Leisure Centre from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Music, markets and memories at the Red Market Barn this Sunday
The Red Market Barn near Kenosee Lake is preparing for a bustling Sunday as part of Saskatchewan Open Farm Days, with more than 50 vendors, fresh baking and live music on tap.
“We're going to have our Sunday market with local vendors and producers,” said Harold Johnston, host of the Red Market Barn. “Everything from the RTR, which is a group from Wawota, who are going to be baking fresh pies.”
Johnston said the market will feature food trucks and a wide variety of items for sale, including homemade clothes, baking and cotton candy.
Updated: Harvest is just getting underway across the Prairies
Harvest operations are slowly starting to get underway. Crop condition and staging across the Prairies is variable depending on location and rainfall patterns.
In Manitoba, early reports of swathing in canola have come in from the Interlake and Central regions, along with some winter cereals.
