Larry Harrison, late of Estevan, SK passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the age of 85 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Hall Funeral Services, Estevan with Sandy Dalziel officiating. Interment will take place at the Estevan City Cemetery with the luncheon to follow at the St. Paul’s United Church auditorium.

Saskatchewan leading the nation in job growth

Saskatchewan is thriving among the country's provinces as the most recent Statistics Canada report shows the province's job growth and unemployment rate are doing well.

The latest labour force numbers show 22,900 new jobs were added to Saskatchewan year-over-year in the month of July, coming in at second among provinces in terms of percentage change at 3.9 per cent. That change represents the largest number of jobs added year-over-year since July 2022.

Police seize $150k worth of meth, cocaine Friday; four arrested

Four police agencies converged on a home on the 1700 block of 3rd Street Friday night. Search warrants executed in five separate locations led to 4 people arrested and the seizure of over $150,000 worth of meth and cocaine. 

Cody Klyne, Devon Martell, Brennan McKeen, and Jessica McKeen, all of Estevan, received charges related to possessing and trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine and possession of property obtained by crime. 

Southeast could see a return to moisture with warm weather

Southeast Saskatchewan is looking to bounce back after a lack of moisture caused a record-low July, with some on the way for August.

July was the driest on record for Estevan, with only 2 mm, the driest out of over 100 years.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says while we have beaten that number already in August, it'll take more rain to get a good bit of moisture into the area.

Jasper's mayor says date when evacuees can return home will be announced Monday

Jasper's mayor says wildfire evacuees will learn Monday when they will be allowed to return home.

Richard Ireland told an online news conference on Saturday that details on the exact time of the announcement haven't been finalized, but news on the date when people will be permitted back into the town will be delivered by members of the unified command on Monday.

About 20,000 visitors to Jasper National Park and 5,000 town residents were forced out last month due to fires, and flames destroyed one-third of the town's buildings.

Girls with goals: New hockey camp puts female empowerment in the spotlight

The first-ever All Girls Hockey Camp, a collaboration between Lemon Wedge Marketing Group and Meg LeBlanc Fitness, was held this past week at Affinity Place, drawing 100 female athletes from U9 to U22 and marking a significant milestone for female hockey in the region.

The camp, which ran from Aug. 6 to 9, focused on holistic development, combining physical training, health and wellness education, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
