Community impact at the heart of the 48th Annual United Way Telethon

The 48th Annual United Way Estevan Telethon is set to take place on October 18 and 19, promising another exciting year of community involvement, entertainment, and fundraising. Running for 33 consecutive hours, the Telethon will once again bring together Estevan’s residents to raise money for vital programs, services, and agencies that support the community.

Mark Pettitt, this year's United Way Estevan President, expressed excitement about the event, stating that the Telethon is designed to involve everyone in the community, from young children to seniors.

Province putting $25 million towards emission-cutting projects in industry

The provincial government has announced a new round of funding for over $25 million which will go towards technologies to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

In a release sent out on Friday, the government detailed the 13 industry-related emissions projects being funded.

The province says by its estimations these projects could result in more than 4,595,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent being curtailed.

Root Rot Network looking to eradicate prairie crop diseases

A new resource for farmers and researchers has been launched with the Root Rot Network covering advances in combatting diseases for crops in the prairies.

That includes both resources and research papers featured on rootrot.ca.

For whatever reason, photographing pheasants this spring and summer has been easier than usual. I've experienced one that owned the road and refused to move, even though I pulled up beside it. I had to wait for it to mosey over the edge of the field before I could start taking photos. And then this one, who was just content to walk along at a close distance parallel with me for as long as it took to take its photo. Typically, pheasants will run with their head down, stretched out until they find shelter. It doesn't take them long to cross the road unlike the chicken!

National Legion Week highlights work, community support of the Estevan Legion branch

Over 100 years ago, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #60 was established in Estevan. It's a lot of time to support veterans and charitable organizations in the city. National Legion Week aims to commemorate the work Legion branches throughout the country do for Canada's servicemen and women, as well as the impacts they've made in their local communities. 

Estevan sees rainclouds approaching this week, potentially halting harvest

Estevan is coming out of a drier and hotter period which has helped keep crops ready for harvest, but this week could be very different.

The current Environment Canada forecast shows that rainfall is a factor almost entirely through the week, with a system lasting until Thursday night.

Few details released on Midale train incident

Few details have been made available after an incident in Midale on the weekend involving a pedestrian and a train. 

The RCMP reported shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning the rail crossings at Highway 606 and Highway 702 were closed after an incident involving a train along the CPKC line. Further details released later from CPKC stated the incident involved a train making contact with a person near the intersection of Highway 606 and Railway Avenue in Midale.

Poilievre to meet with caucus Sunday ahead of return of Parliament this week

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will gather with his caucus on Parliament Hill today as he prepares to make another push to topple the Liberal government as early as next week.

The one-day caucus meeting ahead of the return of Parliament Monday will begin with a public address by Poilievre, who has maintained his party's commanding lead in the polls throughout the summer.

They are the last of the major parties to have a fall strategy session after the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois all met last week.
