Saskatchewan retail trade remains strong even as province slips out of first place
Latest data shows that Saskatchewan is seeing retail trade remain strong, both when compared to past success and other provinces.
Statistics Canada's data shows Saskatchewan's retail trade remaining strong with a 6.4 per cent increase year-over-year in May 2025 over May 2024 (seasonally adjusted). The data places the province above the national average of 4.9 per cent and tied for second amongst the provinces.
Saskatchewan's ranking did slightly slip from first to second in this month's and last month's retail trade data.
Number of federal public service jobs could drop by almost 60,000, report predicts
A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the federal public service could shed almost 60,000 jobs over the next four years as Ottawa looks to cut costs.
Earlier this month, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne sent letters to multiple ministers asking them to identify cuts to program spending at their departments of 15 per cent by 2028-29.
The report, written by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives senior economist David Macdonald, says the federal public service could lose up to 57,000 employees by 2028.

Radville ER experiences 40 service disruptions so far this year

Cecilia McCaskill, known on the track as Fireball, is competing as part of Team Canada. Their tournament opener is set for Friday against the United Kingdom. The game gets underway at 7:00 p.m. Saskatchewan time and will be streamed live and free on YouTube through the Junior Roller Derby Association.
