Heat beats down on the southeast with especially hot weather today

Temperatures are soaring in the southeast as the current forecast shows those peaking above 30 degrees today, along with some relatively high overnight temperatures. Those combine to create some of the conditions for dangerous heat-related conditions, such as heat stroke.

Dr. David Torr, a medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, talks about both heat stroke and the lesser version, heat sickness.

UPDATE: Unplanned outage fixed, planned outage to go ahead

Update 9:38 a.m.: SaskPower has fixed the unplanned outage that affected areas along the downtown of Estevan.

The previously planned outage in the areas of Hillcrest School, Perkins Street, Sun Valley Drive & 4th Avenue will still be going ahead.


A power outage is affecting areas of Estevan ahead of a planned outage that was to take place this morning.

SaskPower previously released that a planned outage would affect customers in Estevan around Hillcrest School, along Perkins Street, the Sun Valley Drive area & along 4th Avenue.

Saskatchewan housing organizations take a look at latest reports and how they portray the housing market

A new report from the Saskatchewan Realtors Association took a look at some of the latest statistics coming out of the housing market, seeing some tightening conditions in multiple areas.

For Regina, 402 sales were reported in June, up over six percent year-over-year and nearly 17 percent above the 10-year average.

Larry Preddy retires following 40 years of work at Hender's Drugs

Estevan is seeing a local pharmacist who co-owned a local institution retire now that summer's rolled around. Larry Preddy, the co-owner of Hender's Drugs since January 1985, retired on June 30, celebrating over 40 years in the position.

Preddy says that it's been quite the ride, with plenty of experience in Estevan.

Ottawa set to miss 2026 deadline for establishing $10-a-day child care: report

Ottawa is expected to miss its 2026 deadline to implement $10-a-day child care services across the country, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives said in a new report published on Wednesday.

The analysis concluded that just six provinces and territories are meeting that fee target now.

David Macdonald, an economist with the centre, said even though fees have dropped significantly everywhere, the federal government is unlikely to meet its self-imposed deadline.

Armed Forces members part of alleged terror plot to take over land in Quebec: RCMP

Two active members of the Canadian Armed Forces are among four people arrested and charged on Tuesday for allegedly participating in an anti-government plot to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City area.

Three of the suspects, motivated by "violent extremism," planned to start a militia and "took concrete actions" to facilitate terrorist activity, the RCMP said. Two 24-year-olds and a 25-year-old allegedly took part in military-style training that included shooting, ambush, survival and navigation exercises, using a variety of firearms and high-capacity magazines. 

Canadian Crop Hail Association following up on over 2000 hail claims in the Prairies

Rainfall across the prairies and even provincially has been quite variable this year.

Some areas have seen some pretty wicked storms bringing heavy rain, high winds and hail.

The Canadian Crop Hail Association says storm activity across the prairies in the last two weeks of June resulted in farmers filing well over 2000 hail claims.

According to the report, mid-June thunderstorms dropped pea-to-toonie-sized hail across Western Canada.  

Province lays out $20 million in support for communities affected by wildfires

$20 million is heading to a number of communities impacted by wildfires in northern Saskatchewan as the provincial government announced a new round of support.

They've also established a dedicated Recovery Task Team (RTT) through the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), which will lead the province's wildfire recovery efforts.
