Flood barriers come down in Swift Current

The City of Swift Current is removing flood barriers after the risk of flooding has receded.

The official statement from the City says that while no flooding ended up happening, the temporary measures were an essential part of the emergency preparedness plan.

Swift Current Fire Department Fire Chief Ryan Hunter was in charge of much of the planning and deployment of the barriers. He is grateful that the flood ended up failing to meet the City's worst expectations.

Furry Friend Friday: Willis

Hey, I'm Willis! I am a very sweet boy who is quickly winning the hearts of staff and visitors! I love to play with my toys and can be independent when needed but I also love being around my humans. Staff recommend a meet and greet if you have other dogs. I am only recommended for older kids because I am a little bit unaware of my size, so it is just a suggestion. I would do great in a home in the city or country, come and meet me today!

SUMA calls for renewed federal infrastructure funding

Saskatchewan’s urban municipalities are calling on the next federal government to commit to a long-term infrastructure funding program to support essential services in communities across the province.

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) says municipalities are responsible for developing and operating 60 per cent of Canada’s public infrastructure — everything from roads and water systems to recreational facilities — yet they have the least fiscal capacity of any order of government.
