Power outage peaks in southwest Sask.

A substantial number of southwest residents in more than half a dozen communities can expect a planned power outage on Sunday. 

The outage is scheduled to run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to allow for the completion of necessary work. 

Customers will be affected in the following communities;

Gull Lake,
Maple Creek, 
Cypress Hills, 
Nekaneet Firt Nation, 
Carmichael,
Tompkins,
Piapot,
Golden Prairie, and
Rural areas west, northwest, and southwest of Gull Lake up to the Alberta border.

Strutt's court case adjourned to July 29

Former Swift Current U18 hockey player Mason Strutt’s court case was adjourned to July 29 during proceedings Wednesday in Moose Jaw Provincial Court. 

Strutt did not appear in person. Estevan lawyer, Kathryn Gilliss, appeared by phone on his behalf. 

Strutt is facing one count of sexual assault in Moose Jaw. He is also facing several charges in Regina, including uttering threats, assault, animal cruelty, and causing a person to take a noxious substance. 

He was released on conditions in April. 

Fire consumes motorhome in Herbert

Summer travel plans will have to change following a fire in Herbert.

At 4:13 p.m. the Herbert Fire Department arrived at a local residence to find a motor home which was engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished before it could spread to the home, but it did destroy the R.V.

According to a Facebook post, five firefighters responded to this incident, and there were no injuries.

The Herbert Fire Department thanked local RCMP and PECC. No cause of the fire has been released at this time.

RCMP happy about two major incidents having minor repercussions

Swift Current Municipal RCMP are sharing some good news on a couple of recent incidents. 

It was a busy evening on June 25 for police with a motorcycle crash in front of the InnovationPlex, and helping rescue a girl who fell down from the cutbanks in Swift Current.

Swift Current Municipal RCMP Staff Sergeant Evan Gordon was happy to announce that neither incident proved to be life-threatening. 

Tail Light Tuesday welcomes CMHA on Canada Day

Tail Light Tuesday continues into July with a new monthly non-profit Partner. 

The Canadian Mental Health Association was able to open up the month with the Rogue Cruisers at the Living Sky Casino on Canada Day on July 1. 

Folks poured into the parking lot, making donations to the CMHA, and showing off their various hotrods. Jeremy Roberts, executive director at the CMHA, was happy to see the nearly 80 cars in attendance, which bodes well for their other shows. 

Southwest History: Local heritage buried in Burnham

A duo of historic early twentieth-century structures with stories about local life and landscape can be found in an unassuming and unincorporated community in southwest Saskatchewan.

The community of Burnham is home to Cutbank School, which operated from 1908 to 1954 in School District #1822, which was formed only a year prior to the school's opening.

57's top Dawgs before road swing

A huge win for the Swift Current 57's before they start a six-game WCBL road swing.

Nkosi Didder allowed only 3 hits and 2 runs in 5 innings of work as the 57's beat the Okotoks Dawgs 4-3 on Friday night.

Wilmer Henriquez went 2 for 3 with a home run in the win for Swift Current.

Trigg Mapes drove in 2 runs in the bottom as the 5th inning as the 57's pulled ahead to eventually hand the West Division leading Dawgs a loss.

Swift Current starts their road swing on Sunday in Weyburn.

Gravelbourg RCMP catch three suspects after firearms stolen, searching for a fourth

Gravelbourg RCMP has arrested three individuals after two firearms were stolen during a break-in, and is searching for a fourth suspect.

Police were notified of the incident at a rural property by Lafleche on April 29. Their investigation led to one male being charged on June 5 and another male and female being charged on July 3. The RCMP has recovered the two firearms stolen.

Jason Palmier, a 46-year-old from Lafleche, is facing one count of breaking and entering and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.
