Local students heading to national skills competition in Regina

Students from our region are heading to nationals after strong performances at the Skills Canada Saskatchewan provincial competition in Saskatoon.

Jaxen Dudley of Eatonia, Walker Lowe of Kyle, Janiah Aguidan, and Jack Unger of the Swift Current Comprehensive High School earned gold medals in their respective categories and will represent Saskatchewan at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) taking place in Regina on May 29 and 30.

Fire near Beverley

Firefighters responded to a fire on a rural property near Beverley.

The RM of Swift Current Fire Department subdued the flames, but not before they spread through a grassy field.

Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current set for major construction

The Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current is slated for significant improvements.

Construction on the estimated $12.2 million project, including culvert replacements and 25 kilometres of paving, is expected to begin this week.

Dan Palmer, senior communication consultant with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways, said the paving job is on the westbound lanes and will span from west of Herbert to about 3 kilometres shy of the Highway 4 junction in Swift Current.

Federal NDP leader worried for kids after Saskatchewan MLA called him a terrorist

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he's worried about the message being sent to children after a Saskatchewan legislature member and former teacher called him a terrorist.

Speaking to reporters in Richmond, B.C., Singh said he didn't care personally about the comment but questioned why Saskatchewan Party MLA Racquel Hilbert would even say such a thing.
