U18 AAA Wheat Kings star Nichol reflects on playoff journey

The Brandon U18 AAA Wheat Kings have punched their ticket to the league finals and as they await their opponent, one of their star forwards took some time to reflect on the playoff run to this point.

"We've been really good," 15-year-old Reid Nichol said about his team's play of late. "We've been staying out of the box as best we can, we've been getting pucks deep and doing the little things to win games."

Esther Heinrichs, 103, of Winnipeg passed away Wednesday, March 12th at Bethania Personal Care Home. She is survived by 2 sisters, nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. 
A memorial service for Esther Heinrichs will be held Saturday, March 29th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Mennonite Memorial Gardens – Sage Creek Cemetery.

Clifford Hunter, 87, of Dominion City formerly of Green Ridge, passed away Wednesday, March 12th at Altona Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Irene, 1 daughter, 1 son, 1 sister, 1 brother, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Clark and Jean Hunter. 
The funeral service for Clifford Hunter will be held Saturday, March 22nd at 2pm at Green Ridge United Church with burial of the urn at a later date at Green Ridge United Church Cemetery.

Novia Scotia MP looking forward to working with Western Canada as new federal ag minister

Canada has a new Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister after Mark Carney took over as Prime Minister last week. Kody Blois, an MP from the Nova Scotia riding of Kings-Hants has been tapped for the role.

Blois says he has plenty of experience in the industry being raised in an area where agriculture is important.

Liberals lagging behind other parties on nominating candidates as election looms

With a federal election call expected any day now, the Liberal party has only nominated about half of the candidates it would need to have a full slate on the ballot even as their polling numbers have been jump-started following their recent leadership race.

There will be 343 ridings contested in the upcoming vote and the Conservatives have nominated candidates in 275 of them so far. The NDP has 217 candidates and the Green Party has 208.

Squeal on Pigs sees great success in 2024 - public assistance is key to eradication

In 2024 Squeal on Pigs Manitoba had a successful year in trapping wild pigs with pig removal numbers being significantly higher totaling over 200 animals.

Doctor Wayne Lees, Coordinator for Squeal on Pigs Manitoba, says this is quite a jump from the year before, and with that they've been able to capture more field data and better understand the characteristics and habits of these wild pigs.

As CAA campaign launches, affordability identified as key issue related to province's Worst Roads

The 14th annual CAA Manitoba Worst Roads Campaign is now underway, and we are again being asked to nominate a road anywhere in the province we want fixed.

“Our research shows that 96 per cent of Manitobans are concerned about the state of our roads,” says Ewald Friesen, manager government relations at CAA Manitoba, “the CAA Worst Roads campaign gives Manitobans a voice in highlighting the roads they believe are in need of repair which provides a valuable snapshot to decision-makers.”
