Squeal on Pigs sees great success in 2024 - public assistance is key to eradication
In 2024 Squeal on Pigs Manitoba had a successful year in trapping wild pigs with pig removal numbers being significantly higher totaling over 200 animals.
Doctor Wayne Lees, Coordinator for Squeal on Pigs Manitoba, says this is quite a jump from the year before, and with that they've been able to capture more field data and better understand the characteristics and habits of these wild pigs.
As CAA campaign launches, affordability identified as key issue related to province's Worst Roads
The 14th annual CAA Manitoba Worst Roads Campaign is now underway, and we are again being asked to nominate a road anywhere in the province we want fixed.

Consumers could find 'meaningful savings' as carbon price ends: Desjardins
Canadians can expect to feel the absence of the consumer carbon price at the pumps immediately but it may take longer to notice a difference in the price of other goods, a new report released Wednesday suggests.
The analysis by Desjardins Economics comes less than a week after Prime Minister Mark Carney and his new Liberal cabinet ordered that the consumer levy be set to zero on April 1.
The carbon price came with a quarterly rebate to offset the cost of inflation; the final rebate will come in April.
PCI students reel in prizes at Manitoba High School Ice Fishing Derby
Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) students made waves — or rather, ice cracks — at the second annual MHSAA Ice Fishing Derby last week, joining over 1,200 students from 70+ schools across the province. Among the anglers was a Grade 10 student named Adam, who landed a prize-winning northern pike in a competition where fewer than 20 fish were caught all day.
Annual inflation rate jumps to 2.6% in February with tax holiday end: StatCan
The annual rate of inflation accelerated sharply to 2.6 per cent in February as the federal government’s temporary tax break came to an end mid-month, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.
That marks a sizeable jump from the 1.9 per cent increase seen in January, when Canadians saw GST and HST taken off a variety of household staples, common gifts and restaurant bills for the entire month.

Storyboard research reveals wealth of surprises for Deloraine's historical society
The research team of Deloraine-Winchester Historical Society has been working on a series of storyboards to be installed throughout the town of Deloraine. Three storyboards were installed last summer and hopefully nine more will be added to the collection by the end of this year.
Research Lead, Jan McClelland says there have been a number of surprises along the way, one being the beautiful presbyterian church, which is now the Prairie Skills Building, was actually designed by a store clerk who lived in Deloraine.

Effie Senkow, 94, of Sarto passed away Wednesday, March 12th at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. She is survived by 2 sons, 1 brother-in-law, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, 3 sisters, 2 sisters-in-law and 5 brothers-in-law.
As per her wishes, a private family service for Effie Senkow will take place with burial at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.
