Float plane flips over on the Winnipeg River
On July 21, 2025, at 2:31 pm, Lac Du Bonnet RCMP received a report that a float plane was discovered upside down in the water after landing on the Winnipeg River.
Once on scene, officers were told the pilot had safely landed the float plane, but the right float went under water while taxiing to shore.
The pilot and sole occupant, a 27-year-old male from Snow Lake, was able to escape the plane just before it tipped upside down in the water. He was not injured.

Mary Loewen nee Thiessen, 94, of Neepawa formerly of Blumenort, passed away Sunday, July 20th at Country Meadows Personal Care Home, Neepawa. She is survived by many in the Loewen and Thiessen families. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius.
The funeral service for Mary Loewen nee Thiessen will be held Thursday, July 24th at 2pm at First Baptist Church, Neepawa with burial at Rosedale Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the church Wednesday, July 23rd from 7 to 8:30pm.
Senft to step down as CEO of Seeds Canada
The founding CEO of the five-year-old organization will stay on until January 2026
Seeds Canada is looking for a new chief executive officer after Barry Senft announced he is stepping down from the role he’s held for about four years.
Senft will continue to serve as CEO until the end of January 2026.
“I think after five years, it’s time for new leadership,” he said during the 2025 Seeds Canada conference in Quebec City.
He said someone with more seeds experience would make sense now that the organization is up and running.

Proactive planning pays off as Killarney-Turtle Mountain launches landfill expansion
The Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain is making headway on their landfill expansion project having approved the tendered proposal from Dirt Pro Ltd.
Earlier this spring the municipality was awarded $813,000 from the Manitoba government under the Manitoba Growth and Renewal Opportunities Fund, also known as the Grow Fund. This fund is specifically for municipalities outside of the Winnipeg perimeter for projects like this.
Born to bull ride, Jett Lockie living the rodeo dream
From as far back as he can remember, Jett Lockie and his family have been around rodeo, and all these years later, the boy that watched his dad ride bulls is now the man that dominates the beast.
"My dad rode bulls, and both my sisters barrel race, so I've been around rodeo ever since I was really little," Lockie says with a smile. "It's a lot of fun, it's pretty much a big family every where you go. Everyone wants to help, it's not any other sport, everyone is trying to help each other."

Conservative MPs publicly support Freedom Convoy organizers ahead of sentencing
Several Conservative MPs are criticizing the Crown's approach to prosecuting two key organizers of the Freedom Convoy protests, with the party's deputy leader calling it an act of "political vengeance."
Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were convicted of mischief in April for their roles in organizing the demonstration, which blockaded streets around Parliament Hill for more than three weeks in early 2022.
Barber was also convicted of counselling others to disobey a court order.
