Yellowhead RCMP respond to drowning at Sandy Lake
Media Release - July 14, 2025
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 11:05 pm, Yellowhead RCMP received a report of a possible drowning at Sandy Lake Beach, in Sandy Lake.
When officers arrived at the scene, Emergency Medical Services were performing CPR on a male, who was later pronounced deceased.
The initial investigation has determined the victim, a 32-year-old from Brandon, along with three others, had been swimming in the lake when they noticed he was missing.
Big Impact, Small Package: Manitoba firefighters gear up with new skid units
The Minnedosa Fire Department was one of 20 fire departments in Manitoba to receive a fire skid from GlobalMedic.
GlobalMedic’s fire skid program provides compact, ready-to-use units equipped with a pump, 1000 litre (250 gallon) tank, and hose that transform ordinary pickup trucks or utility vehicles into a small, maneuverable fire trucks. The units allow crews to operate in rugged terrain and reach areas inaccessible to full-sized engines and pumpers.
Manitoba cabinet minister apologizes again for sign-language interpreter comments
The Manitoba government is promising new financial penalties to enforce rules aimed at removing barriers for people with disabilities.
Nahanni Fontaine, the minister responsible for services for people with disabilities, says the NDP government will introduce changes to the Accessibility for Manitobans Act next spring.
In a video posted to social media, she also says the government will work to ensure every public event is fully accessible with participation from sign language interpreters.

Slippery City Slicker Goes Full Caddyshack: Golf cart heist on Park Ave
Theft Under $5000
On July 13th at 2:19PM it was reported that a golf cart had been stolen off a trailer parked outside a business in the 1600 block of Park Avenue. At 9:55PM police were informed that the golf cart had been spotted in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Frederick Street. Police attended the residence and located a 38-year-old male in possession of the keys to the golf cart. The male was arrested and brought to BPS detention cells for further processing.

On Friday July 11th at 4:55pm, Police conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of 13th St. The passenger in the vehicle was found to have an Endorsed Warrant for her arrest for Failing to Comply with her Probation Order. The 27yr old female was arrested and then released on an Appearance Notice with a Court date set in August.

Funeral Date: July 17, 2025
Margaret Harder nee Dueck, 93, of Altona passed away Saturday, July 12th at Altona Memorial Health Centre. She is survived by 2 daughters, 6 sons, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Ed, 1 daughter, 1 son, 1 daughter-in-law, and 1 grandson.
The funeral service for Margaret Harder nee Dueck will be held Thursday, July 17th at 2pm at South Park Mennonite Brethren Church, Altona with burial at Altona Cemetery.
