Agri-food exports are one of the most important sectors for Saskatchewan to expand its international trade, with the province recently focusing on one country's growth.
The United Arab Emirates saw growth in imports of Saskatchewan agri-food products of 19 per cent over 2024 compared to 2023, with a total trade value of $322 million.
Trudeau participates in Canada-U.S. relations cabinet committee amid calls to resign
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was taking part in a cabinet committee meeting on Canada-U.S. relations today, amid increasing calls for his resignation.
A mid-day adjustment to Trudeau's itinerary was issued by the Prime Minister's Office and noted he was taking part in the meeting virtually, though a specific time wasn't listed.
Neither Trudeau, nor Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc issued a public comment after the meeting.
Wheatland County reminding residents to apply for a fireworks permit
Wheatland County is reminding residents that if they want to enjoy lighting up the night sky during the holiday season they have to apply for a permit for fireworks.
"Be sure to apply for your permits by 3:00 p.m. on December 24," says the county in a news release.
The county mentioned fire permits are also needed for burning clean wood and paper in a pile or pit. However, they're not required for residential fire pits, incinerators, or barbecues.
Agra Risk Wheatland Kings break single season record for most wins
The Junior B Agra Risk Wheatland Kings have been roaring along in 2024 and have now broken a record for most wins in a season.
The Kings won 8-3 over the Mountain View Colts on Friday (Dec. 20) and are now 19-5-1 and in second place in the division behind the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.
The team was also supposed to play the High River Flyers on Saturday (Dec. 21), but the game was postponed due to issues with the building in High River.
Bassano RCMP respond to serious crash on Highway 1
Bassano RCMP responded to a serious vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Highway 56 on Monday morning.
"Highway 1 at the collision scene now has a westbound and eastbound lane open," said police in a news release.
If Strathmore drivers are planning to head that way, RCMP is asking residents to proceed cautiously.

Strathmore residents should watch for these waste collection changes
The Town of Strathmore is changing up garbage and organics collection during the holidays.
Black and green carts will be gathered on Monday and Tuesday as Christmas Day is a holiday.
Bins will also be picked up on Thursday and Friday.
Crews will be back to collect garbage from December 30-31 as New Year's Day is also a holiday.

One person arrested following police incident at Drumheller home
Drumheller RCMP has arrested one person following a police incident at a home in the area.
According to a news release, officers were on the scene of a home on 7 Street East and 7 Avenue East in Drumheller at 3:53 a.m. earlier this morning.
Mounties said around 7:25 a.m. the person was safely arrested.
During the incident, police asked residents to avoid the area, follow officers' directions, and not take photos or videos and post them to social media until after the incident ended.
Police mentioned there was no risk to the public during the incident.
Grain Growers of Canada elects new executive
A grain farmer from Acme, Alberta has been elected as the new chair of Grain Growers of Canada (GGC).
Tara Sawyer, who is also the Chair of Alberta Grains, is the first woman to take over the role of chair for Grain Growers of Canada.
Joining her are Scott Hepworth, a grain grower from Assiniboia, Saskatchewan and a Director of the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, as First Vice Chair and Sally Parsonage, a grain producer from Baldur, Manitoba and the Secretary of Manitoba Crop Alliance, joins the executive as Second Vice Chair.
