Moon changes overnight in rare celestial event
A rare celestial event is coming to the area tonight.
A strawberry full moon will occur Tuesday night (June 10) and throughout the early hours of Wednesday morning.
This lunar event occurs approximately every 18.6 years and is linked to a major lunar standstill. This June, the moon will appear lower along the horizon than it has in decades.
The best time to view this moon will be at 1:43 a.m.
For the best visibility, look along the eastern horizon just after sunset.
Wheatland County placed under Fire Advisory
Wheatland County has been placed under a Fire Advisory.
The advisory was put in place on Tuesday (June 10) due to a moderate fire risk in the area.
Despite the advisory covering Wheatland County, the Town of Strathmore is not affected.
The advisory prohibits the use of public fires or fireworks, but there are several exceptions, including:
Who are the Siksika Nation Princesses?
Four princesses were crowned at the Siksika Princess Pageant.
The pageant took place at the Strathmore Civic Centre on Thursday, June 5.
Candidates showcased their talents and delivered speeches throughout the evening. At 9:45 p.m. four girls were officially crowned as Siksika royalty.
Ariya Red Old Man was crowned Tiny Tot Princess, Brealeigh Calf was named Miss Kookona, Destyn Wolf Child earned the title of Teen Siksika, and Trinity Pretty Youngman was crowned Miss Siksika.
Special Air Quality Statement resumes in Strathmore
A Special Air Quality Statement was issued for Wheatland County, the second alert in the last week.
The statement was released on Tuesday (June 10). According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), wildfire smoke is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility in the area.

A report says new cleanup rules for renewable energy sites are hurting the competitiveness of Alberta's industry.
Business Renewables Centre-Canada analyzed the reclamation security requirements for renewables in 27 jurisdictions and found Alberta's are now the most costly.
Under a code of practice for solar and wind projects published last week, the Alberta government says operators must provide an estimate for the cost of dismantling turbines and panels, removing underground concrete infrastructure, hauling waste away, replanting vegetation and other items.
Chestermere announces plan to purchase local golf course
The City of Chestermere has announced plans to purchase the Lakeside Greens Golf Course.
On Friday (June 6) Mayor Shannon Dean appeared in a video posted to the city's Facebook page to speak more about the purchase.
"This decision is about protecting 127 acres of land centrally located in our community," said Dean. "Back in 2023, over 2,000 signatures were collected by the Lakeside Preservation Society to preserve and protect the golf course."
