From haunts to parties: Strathmore Ag Society changes up annual Fright Night event
The Strathmore & District Agricultural Society has announced a few changes to the upcoming Fright Night event.
"We are switching things up this year with what we are calling Stampede Fright Night “Lite” because it is a new spin on our usual spooky Halloween fun," wrote the society on the Strathmore Stampede Facebook page. "There will be no Halloween haunts this year, but two great parties instead."
Poilievre to meet with caucus Sunday ahead of return of Parliament this week
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will gather with his caucus on Parliament Hill today as he prepares to make another push to topple the Liberal government as early as next week.
The one-day caucus meeting ahead of the return of Parliament Monday will begin with a public address by Poilievre, who has maintained his party's commanding lead in the polls throughout the summer.
They are the last of the major parties to have a fall strategy session after the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois all met last week.

On Monday Parliamentarians will return to the familiar stone walls of West Block in Ottawa to find the political landscape has shifted significantly.
When they last gathered in the capital the Liberals knew their prospects were poor after languishing in the polls for more than a year, but they were secure in the knowledge the New Democrats would prevent them from toppling before they table the next budget, at least.
But the summer saw several seismic shifts that mean the government will now operate as a true minority that could fall to an election at any time.
Air Canada, pilots reach tentative deal, averting work stoppage
Passengers with plans to fly on Canada's largest airline can breathe a sigh of relief after Air Canada said Sunday it has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing more than 5,200 of its pilots.
The news of a preliminary deal with the Air Line Pilots Association came shortly after midnight on Sunday when the airline issued a press release just days ahead of a potential work stoppage for Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.
The tentative deal averts a strike or lockout that could have begun on Wednesday, with flight cancellations expected before then.
RCMP looking for more footage of homicide near Strathmore
Police are looking for dashcam footage for a homicide investigation near Strathmore on September 11.
According to a news release, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit say the footage they are hoping to find took place between 12:10 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. in the Erin Woods area of Calgary.
RCMP say a fire was spotted on the side of the road in Rocky View County just after 1:30 a.m. that same night. After the fire was put out, a body was discovered.
Celebrate Terry Fox's legacy at Strathmore's annual run
Strathmore runners will step out for a cause during the Terry Fox Run on Sunday (Sept. 15).
This year's event marks the 27th annual run in Strathmore's history.
In an interview with StrathmoreNow, run organizer Diana Baird says almost all of the events were in person, but there were two years when they went virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Terry Fox had his leg amputated leg in 1977 due to cancer and decided to embark on a cross-Canada run in 1980 to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
Air Canada, pilots still far apart as strike notice deadline approaches
Labour talks between Air Canada and its pilots are approaching a midnight deadline, when either side could trigger the start of a shutdown for Canada's largest airline.
After more than 14 months of negotiations, starting Sunday the two sides will be in a position to provide 72-hour notice of a strike or lockout that could disrupt travel for the more than 100,000 passengers who fly the airline daily.
In the days leading up to the deadline, the two sides have said they remain far apart on the central question of pay.

Manhunt ends as RCMP arrest fugitive wanted for murder near Strathmore
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested Elijah Blake Strawberry.
He was charged with second-degree murder in a shooting that happened near Strathmore in August.
Strawberry had been on the run from police for over a month. A warrant was issued for his arrest following a shooting that killed Rocky View County employee Colin Hough and injured another unnamed man.
According to police, Strawberry was found at a home in O'Chiese First Nation near Red Deer.
Rocky View County lifts fire advisory, permit burning now allowed
A fire advisory in Rocky View County was lifted on Friday.
"Effective immediately, there are no fire advisories or bans in the east or west division of the county, and permit burning is allowed. Always follow safe burning practices," says a Facebook post from the county.
Staff with the county say any residents looking to renew a burning permit can call Fire Services at 403-230-1401.
