The province has announced that beginning next month, on December 1, the government will be taking the first steps to ban photo radar on ring roads in Calgary on Stoney Trail and in Edmonton on Anthony Henday Drive.

"At the same time, Alberta’s government will be engaging with municipalities and law enforcement over the next year on removing all “fishing hole” locations across the province. Albertans can be confident that going forward, photo radar will only be used to improve traffic safety," the province stated.

With Wednesday evening's snowfall causing slippery road conditions across Airdrie and the surrounding areas, motorists are reminded to give road workers room to work.

A previously reported multi-vehicle collision on Stoney Trail, heading Eastbound, east of the QEII has been cleared.

Motorists had reported on Thursday morning that the QEII was severely congested, with reports that there were several vehicles in the ditch on Southbound Stoney Trail.

There are reports of fog patches developing on the QEII highway heading in both the Southbound and Northbound directions, which may further impede motorists.

Southbound travel from Airdrie to Calgary on Thursday morning may be slowed with shoulder ice and snow on the highway, icy sections, as well as black ice and icy wheel paths, while Northbound travel from Airdrie to Crossfield may also be slippery and slushy.

Road conditions have improved since earlier this week. Warmer temperatures have resulted in snow and ice melting, making for messy, but fair driving conditions. 

Earlier this week, due to snowfall, Mounties issued a warning to motorists. 

Police previously advised that roads north of Airdrie on the QEII between Carstairs and Crossfield, in both the Southbound and Northbound directions were slippery due to snow. Police asked that motorists drive to the conditions of the road and that there may be congestion and delays due to weather.

On Wednesday afternoon, Airdrie RCMP received a call regarding a multi-car collision. The scene of the collision is now clear.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident northbound on 8th Street, just before Railway Avenue.

Firefighters were on the scene cleaning up fluid from the vehicles while also cleaning up glass and debris.  

RCMP says no major injuries have been reported and the cause was determined to be distracted driving.

Reports are also stating that the QE2 near Crossfield is very icy and to drive with caution. 

Alerts are in place for Rocky View County near Airdrie, Crossfield, Cochrane, Olds and Sundre.

Strong winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected today. Currently the wind is coming from the southwest at 14 kilometers per hour gusting to 52. 

Winds from the west will strengthen today. These strong winds will continue until this evening.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

A 42-year-old man has died after a head-on collision involving an SUV and a pick-up truck pulling a cattle trailer on Highway 9, just north of Highway 564.

According to Mounties, Airdrie Rural RCMP were called to the collision at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

Previously, police advised motorists that traffic was unable to travel on Highway 9 and was diverted for several hours. 

The RCMP collision reconstructionist team attended the scene.
