A 42-year-old man has died after a head-on collision involving an SUV and a pick-up truck pulling a cattle trailer on Highway 9, just north of Highway 564.

According to Mounties, Airdrie Rural RCMP were called to the collision at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening. 

For several hours Highway 9 was impassable as an RCMP collision reconstructionist team was on the scene of the collision.

Mounties extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Police added that the 42-year-old was declared deceased at the scene, while the occupants of the pick-up received minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
