More delays expected in Dryden area
Dryden drivers will see even more traffic delays this morning.
The City of Dryden says Victoria Street from Whyte Avenue to Earl Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic today between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., as crews complete repairs to the water distribution system.
As well, Public Works is reminding the community that the King Street Underpass will remain closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, as crews work to replace the guide rails along the roadway.
Update: Truck in ditch slows down motorists near Balzac traffic circle
The scene has been cleared.
Earlier in the day, RCMP reported that a call was received at 1:57 P.M. on July 2 for a single-vehicle collision just south of the Balzac traffic circle.
"It was a report of a truck, nose-down in the water in the ditch," RCMP stated.
No injuries were reported. The RCMP noted that the motorists may be intermittently stopped or re-routed due to tow trucks on the scene.
"Traffic was able to go through the traffic circle and west with a small detour," RCMP said.
Two tidbits of traffic information you need today
Starting today, at 8:30 A.M. if you're headed Northbound on the QEII, there will be light installation at CrossIron Mills.
Keep left and remember that speed will be reduced to 80km/h.
Also starting today at 9:30 till noon, if you're headed Eastbound on Airport Trail at Deerfoot Trail, there is a right lane closure, with speed reductions to 50 km/h. This is due to water monitoring.
Rabbit Lake Road closed until further notice
The City of Kenora is warning drivers that Rabbit Lake road is closed to all traffic until further notice after a water main break.
The city says the closure is between the Creighton Youth Centre and Henry Street near the Rabbit Lake Trailer Park area. There is no access through the repair site, and you’re asked to avoid the area.
Residents are reminded to slow down and move over when near working crews.
Sedesky Road reopens, city monitoring Dingwall Ford area
Kenora residents in the Sedesky Road area are now able to return to their homes.
The City of Kenora says remedial work in the area has been completed and Sedesky Road is now open for safe travel. An evacuation on Sedesky Road was ordered on June 2 by city staff, while repairs to raise the grade of the roadway began on June 20.
Repairs to Sedesky Road begin today
Road work continues for some of Kenora’s most flooded areas.
The City of Kenora will begin the remedial work to raise the grade on Sedesky Road today, June 20. The work is expected to be completed this week, in time for the re-opening of the road.
During this time, Sedesky Road will remain closed and no vehicular traffic will be allowed through the work site.
Whitecourt RCMP on scene at serious motor vehicle collision
On June 16, 2022, at approximately 10:55 a.m., Whitecourt RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a semi and an SUV, on Highway 43 at Dahl Drive. The driver of the SUV was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Whitecourt RCMP, RCMP Traffic Section, RCMP Collision Analyst, Traffic and Commercial Vehicle Sheriff’s, Whitecourt Fire Department and EMS all attended to assist with the collision.
The investigation continues. Traffic was being diverted around the scene, however, it is moving freely at this time.
Myrtle Ave closed in Dryden
Drivers in Dryden may expect delays today as City crews complete repairs.
Myrtle Ave from Government St to Florence St will be closed to vehicular traffic on Monday June 13, 2022 from 7:30am to 4:00pm.
This closure is necessary to complete repairs to the water distribution system. Government St will remain open to through traffic however please use extra caution within the construction zone. To ensure the construction zone remains safe, please anticipate short delays and construction workers.
Council to vote on $185,000 of work to repair, protect Coker Road
The City of Kenora is debating spending $185,000 to build up Coker Road to protect residents from future flooding events after Kenora’s evacuation last month, which continues for multiple roadways throughout the community.
Councillors are hosting a Special Council meeting today to discuss the new budget amendment, which would pull funding from the JM Roads Reserve Fund. If approved, work on Coker Road would take place just east of Kelly Road, and would involve raising the height of the roadway.
New system to track flood conditions in Kenora
The City of Kenora has created a new way for residents to keep track of road conditions in the evacuation area north of the by-pass.
The city says after researching flooding safety standards, their new Trigger Point Evaluation System lays out action plans for when flood waters reach certain ‘trigger points’ on local roadways.
