Motorists warned of snow forecasted for B.C. mountain passes this weekend

For those planning to travel to neighbouring British Columbia this Victoria Day Long weekend, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday morning due to a potential for snow.

The advisory is in effect for the Coquihalla Highway, Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass, Kootenay Pass, Begbie Summit, and Rogers Pass.

It is predicted that snow could fall overnight on Thursday to Friday morning and possibly early Saturday morning, with accumulation from two to five centimetres.

Will Lake Louise Drive construction affect your long weekend travel?

Banff National Park officials have announced that a portion of the Lake Louise Drive Rehabilitation and Modernization project will start after the Victoria Day Long weekend.

According to the Parks Canada website, construction on Lake Louise Drive will begin on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

"Summer 2024 visitors are reminded to plan ahead, prepare for delays, and book a shuttle if they are planning to see Lake Louise or Moraine Lake."

Road safety ramp-up: Alberta Sheriffs begin inspection blitz

Beginning today, the province will take part in a North American-wide commercial vehicle inspection safety blitz.

"Alberta Sheriffs will ramp up commercial vehicle inspections as part of International Roadcheck, a three-day commercial vehicle safety campaign. From May 14 to 16, members of the Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol will inspect hundreds of additional commercial vehicles and their drivers for compliance with federal and provincial regulations at vehicle inspection stations throughout the province," the province stated.

Lane and road closures in Airdrie, some lasting till autumn

While a previous temporary lane closure on Main Street South finished over the weekend, which was meant to accommodate construction activities for the Library and Multi-use Facility, another road closure is slated beginning Tuesday.

Starting May 14 until Wednesday, May 22, Main Street South will experience another temporary lane closure to accommodate construction activities as part of the Stormwater System Rehabilitation project.

Crews finish work on traffic light reportedly hit by vehicle

A traffic light in Strathmore is back up and running after being struck by a vehicle in the winter.

Crews were working on the light at the intersection of the Trans Canada and Range Road 251 over the past few days.

While there was a detour in the area, it has since cleared, and the light is back up and running.
