Enbridge comments on advancing bylaw amendment at latest R.M. of Weyburn meeting
Many eyes were on the R.M. of Weyburn No. 67 council on Friday as they held their regular meeting, with items on the agenda pertaining to the proposed Seven Stars wind energy project.
Proposed bylaw amendment
This included the first reading of a bylaw amendment requested by Enbridge, the company behind the project, regarding the permissible height of wind turbines.

'Can't be expressed in words' Weyburn Sikh community welcomes heritage month
April is Sikh Heritage Month in Saskatchewan and across Canada. Harwinder Kaur is part of the Sikh community in Weyburn, she says seeing the culture recognized is a “wonderful feeling”.
“We are able to share our traditional music, our heritage, history, literature, and books, especially by the Sikh authors and with the Sikh characters. So it's a very different feeling that I think can't be expressed in words.”
She continues, saying it’s an opportunity for Sikhs to celebrate their culture, as well as share it with others.

The bakery and deli at the Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store are now open, with fresh-baked goods and deli selections available once again.
"We still have some finishing touches that are still ongoing, as well as the sales floor portion, which will be a little bit later in the project," said Kevin Arthur, General Manager.
"Our customers have been really understanding and they know we had to do a lot of work to have a modern facility to meet their needs, so they were really good about it, but also excited to have us back in operation."
Leaders take their campaigns to Western Canada as federal election nears midpoint
The leaders of the top three federal parties were campaigning Tuesday in Western Canada, where Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre promised to crack down on offshore tax loopholes by appointing a tax task force.
The Conservatives said the task force would be asked to make the rules simpler and more fair and would ensure large companies can't "stash their money in offshore tax havens."

There has been a steady rise in the number of people seeking asylum at a major border crossing south of Montreal, border officials said Tuesday amid concerns that Trump administration policies could drive another massive influx of migrants to Canada.
The rise in would-be refugees at the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle crossing coincides with the looming expiration of the temporary status of hundreds of thousands of migrants in the United States.
Red Wings make it three in a row over Bombers
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings pushed the Flin Flon Bombers to the brink of elimination Tuesday night. Ethan Dekay scored a hat trick as the Red Wings skated to a 4-1 win on home ice at Crescent Point Place to go up 3-0 in their best-of-seven semifinal series.
"Couldn't have done it without my teammates, and my linemates," Dekay said after the game.
"It was a little sloppy," Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes said of his team's performance. "But at the end of the day, we did some things that we believe are going to give us success here throughout the series."
Medals awarded to WCS students at Skills Saskatchewan
A great showing from Weyburn Comprehensive School students taking part in the provincial Skills Competition held Friday in Saskatoon.
Coached by teachers Leah Beam, Cody Paterson, Colton Lund, Will Gilmore, and Wilf Lendrum, the Weyburn Skills Team spent many hours preparing to compete.
"We competed against students from all over the province in categories such as Carpentry, Electrical Installations, Welding, Video Production, Mechanical Engineering CAD, and Hairstyling Braiding and Bridal," shared Leah Beam.
Brief meeting for Weyburn City Council ahead of SUMA convention
Weyburn City Council held its regular meeting on Monday evening, moving it ahead by one week to accommodate the upcoming Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association convention, where several Weyburn city councillors are expected to be in attendance.
During the brief session, the council received updates from both the Fire Department and the Water Treatment Plant.
Asbestos possible in nearly 60 SHC owned rental properties
Asbestos Awareness Week ended on Monday. The week aims to bring awareness of the use of asbestos in buildings worldwide, including here in Weyburn. While it hasn’t been used in construction for decades, it is still present in a number of buildings.
UPDATE: Fillmore man reported missing located by RCMP
The RCMP report Leslie William Bell has been found deceased, his family has been notified. His death is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance during this time.
