Stars of the Festival shining bright, awards presented

The Weyburn Rotary Music Festival has concluded for the season, with the 'Stars of the Festival' event held on Wednesday, March 26th at the Cugnet Centre. The performers were those who received the top awards in each category.

The St. Michael School Honour Band was awarded 'Best performance by a band', $300 & a shield sponsored by Prairie Sky Co-op Association.

Alexandra Jose and Heidi Penner gave piano performance and were given medals sponsored by Western Financial Group.

Moe backs Alberta Premier Smith's controversial U.S. advocacy efforts

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's efforts to defuse an escalating trade war with the United States should be commended.

Moe's comment comes as Smith heads to Florida for an event at an undisclosed location with a far-right U.S. influencer who has mocked Canada as a "silly country" and spoken about it being annexed as the 51st state.

Amid continued tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, Moe says Smith is one of Canada's strongest advocates.

New constable starts with WPS

A new face is on patrol with the Weyburn Police Service. On Wednesday, the WPS announced Constable Matt Sanders was sworn in.  

Cst. Sanders is a 17-year veteran of policing, who is originally from Weyburn, before his career took him to other centres. Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John said Cst. Sanders originally wanted to start his career at home, though. 

Southeast expected to feel freezing storm starting this evening

The prairies are expected to feel quite the system starting today as it moves towards the east and is set to hit the southeast tonight. Environment Canada sent out a special weather statement earlier this week detailing that, though some pieces have shifted since then.

Near 100 more rural communities connected with SaskTel's recent 5G expansion

SaskTel announced yesterday its recent expansion of its 5G network to nearly 100 rural communities, including Arcola, Carlyle, Fillmore, Manor, and Moose Mountain Provincial Park. 

External Communications Manager for SaskTel, Greg Jacobs, explains this is part of an ongoing effort to upgrade their entire wireless network to 5G. 

'It's the Wild West': How AI is creating new frontiers for crime in Canada

Canadian police patrolling corners of the dark web are well aware of the commonly nefarious ways criminals exploit artificial intelligence. 

There's deepfake pornography. Voice impersonation. Romance scams that turn into financial fraud.

But recently there's been a new twist — criminals offering to "jailbreak" the very algorithms that form the architecture of AI's large language models, or LLMs, tearing down their safeguards so they can be retasked for criminal purposes.

Call it tech support for cybercriminals.
