Saskatchewan premier declares state of emergency as rampaging wildfires spread
Saskatchewan declared a provincewide state of emergency Thursday in its fight against rampaging wildfires that have forced thousands to flee.
The declaration by Premier Scott Moe came one day after his Manitoba counterpart Wab Kinew did the same.
“It's a very serious situation that we're faced with,” Moe told a news conference in Prince Albert.
“We do need some rainfall. We need that sooner rather than later, and in light of that not being in the forecast, we most certainly are putting in place every measure possible to prepare the province.”

Police parade participation protects public
In addition to the record 50 vehicles taking part in the Soo Line Cruisers Car Club's first Care Home Cruise of the season on Sunday, there were also police cruisers.

Sergeant Riley Ross said the WPS likes to be involved in the community.

While Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture is reporting seeding progress across southeastern Saskatchewan at 80 per cent, on par with the five-year average, farmers in the Weyburn area are still facing significant delays and difficult field conditions after recent heavy rainfall.
Dale Paslawski, a farmer northeast of Weyburn, said the ground remains saturated after receiving between three and a half to four inches of rain in recent weeks, leaving many producers scrambling to finish.
Seeding continues in southeast as moisture levels improve
Despite a slow start to the season caused by wet weather in parts of the southeast, seeding is now 80 percent complete across the region, matching the five-year average and marking a significant jump from just a week earlier.
Crops Extension Specialist Kim Stonehouse with the Ministry of Agriculture noted that while seeding in the southeast saw some delays due to recent rainfall, the province overall is well ahead of schedule.

The Weyburn Arts Council (WAC) opened up registration for the Gifted Summer Art Market, being held on July 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jubilee Park, to all types of vendors this year, and not just those who hand-make their items.
