LeBlanc set to meet Lutnick in Washington after Ottawa drops some tariffs
Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc is set to meet with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington this week after Ottawa announced it would be lifting some retaliatory tariffs.
LeBlanc's office said he will travel to the United States capital on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced last Friday that Canada will drop some retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products to match American tariff exemptions for goods covered under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement on trade, called CUSMA. .

Weyburn man apprehended following dangerous driving, assault charges in Alberta
A Weyburn man was taken into custody by the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) over the weekend, resulting in multiple charges.
According to a release by the MHPS, officers were conducting property checks in an industrial area on Saturday when they spotted a Ford F150 behaving suspiciously. They attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver fled from the police at a high speed. In consideration of public safety, no pursuit ensued. Police were able to identify the driver after an investigation.
Saskatchewan finalizes trade mission to Asia
The dates are set Premier Scott Moe's trade mission to Asia runs September 6th to 12th.
It's a very important region for the province ... In 2024, Saskatchewan exported over $10 billion to Asia—$4.4 billion to China, $929 million to Japan and 162 million to South Korea.
The goal is to reinforce future trade opportunities and engage with China on their temporary duties on peas and canola.
The Premier has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and any other federal ministers to join the trade mission.
Southey RCMP seeking public help to find Cordell Daae
The Southey RCMP are asking the public to report sightings and information on the whereabouts of 49-year-old Cordell Daae.
Daae is wanted on warrants by Southey RCMP for charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and failure to appear in court. These charges were laid in relation to a July 9th, 2023, investigation.
According to a press release issued on August 18th, the Southey RCMP have been working to locate Daae and are now asking the public to call police if they see him or know where he is. The investigation is ongoing.
Concrete work prompts temporary closure on South Railway Avenue
The City of Weyburn is advising residents of the closure of the entrance to South Railway Avenue, located off Third Street.
The closure, required to accommodate concrete work, began on Monday and is expected to remain in place for approximately two weeks.
Drivers are asked to use alternate routes and follow posted signage, as well as ensure extra time for detours or potential delays. Please remain cautious for workers in the area.
Weyburn's Deana Mainil wins medals at National Pickleball Championships
Weyburn's Deana Mainil competed in the Myoflex Canadian National Pickleball Championships, held August 19th to 24th at the Taylor Tennis Center in Winnipeg.
She said more than 720 athletes competed on the venue's 32 courts.

West Nile still a concern in southeast Saskatchewan
As warm summer weather continues, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is reminding residents in the southeast that the peak season for West Nile virus is here. Dr. Stanley Enebeli, a medical health officer for the southeast, said residents should take precautions against the virus, which is carried by the Culex tarsalis species of mosquito.
Harvest operations are just getting underway in Alberta.
Alberta Agriculture's latest crop report shows two per cent of the crop has been combined. That's down from the 5-year average of eight per cent and the 10-year average of six per cent.
Warm, dry conditions in the Southern part of the province are helping with the harvest, while the cooler temperatures in the North West, North East, and Peace regions are slowing crop maturity and delaying harvest.
