Quality of the prairie hay crop is declining with the heat
Getting this year's hay crop cut in top condition has been a challenge across the prairies.
The heat over the last couple of weeks is resulting in a decline not just in crops, but in hay quality as well.
Hay conditions have been slowly declining since we started seeing the higher temperatures with many days hitting well into the 30's.

Five now arrested in Alida break-in Investigation, face multiple charges
Last Wednesday, the RCMP’s Criminal Incident Response Team served a search warrant at a home in Alida in connection with an investigation into a series of break-ins in that community earlier this year. At the time of the warrant being executed, the RCMP advised of an increased police presence, and that two people had been taken into custody – a woman, and a male youth.
Beavers come from behind twice to claim 13U AAA provincial title
Another provincial championship for a Weyburn baseball team.
On the weekend, the 13U AAA Weyburn Beavers were in Lumsden for the Tier 2 Provincial Championship. They started play with the round robin, finishing first in their pool, and second overall. This set up a date with the Saskatoon A’s in the semi-finals.

The Weyburn Leisure Centre was the venue, and the Weyburn Silver Seals the host club, for the Saskatchewan South Semi-Finals on Saturday. The swimmers from Weyburn would have a great performance, combining for a total of 61 medals. Here is the breakdown of how the Weyburn swimmers medalled:

Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan recently gave out $1.16 million to community groups across the province. According to their press release, the grants are how the government ensures funds from gaming are returned to Saskatchewan communities.
When bugs aren't so bad: encouraging garden pollinators
Gardeners hoping to get more yield from their plants are likely aware they need to encourage pollinators, such as bees, insects, birds, and even wind or water.
Pollination is the process of moving pollen (male) from the anther in one flower to the stigma (female) in another flower of the same species. The act of successful pollination produces fertile seeds. According to Gardening experts at the University of Saskatchewan, while some plants are self-pollinating, almost all flowering plants need to be pollinated by a winged creature.

Edward Frank Jacob, late of Weyburn, SK, born on April 21, 1945, passed away on July 25, 2024 at the age of 79 years.

UPDATE: Change of venue for meeting to discuss proposed area wind power project
Due to the number of people interested in attending, the venue has changed for a meeting being held next week for those interested in discussing concerns about a proposed wind power project in the R.M.s of Weyburn and Griffin. The meeting will now be held at McKenna Hall on July 31st at 7 p.m.
Iconic Long Creek Saloon destroyed in overnight blaze
The fire in Radville has destroyed two businesses in that community, caused severe damage to a third, and had impacts throughout downtown Radville Sunday night, as a fire claimed the Long Creek Saloon and a neighbouring restaurant.
