The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into Friday night’s game in a must-win situation. Down 3-1 in the best-of-seven quarterfinal series with the Battlefords North Stars, they would need to pick up the win to force game six, and possibly game seven.

The Wings would also be at a disadvantage in the game, as head coach Cody Mapes wasn’t behind the bench, serving a one-game suspension after a game misconduct in game four.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are now in a must-win situation after falling to the Battlefords North Stars 6-1 last night. 

Despite out chancing the Battlefords North Stars, and outshooting them in the final two periods, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings would come up short Tuesday night, falling 3-0 to the North Stars. With the win, the Battlefords took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven quarterfinal series.

The first period would see Red Wings netminder Dazza Mitchell weather a storm, as he stopped 20 shots. He would turn aside 43 of the 45 shots he faced all game.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will look to take the lead in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series with the Battlefords North Stars tonight when they take the ice for game three. The series is knotted up 1-1, with Weyburn winning game one of the series 3-2 Friday night, and the Battlefords pulling out a 5-2 victory Saturday.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into Saturday night’s game with the momentum of taking game one of their best-of-seven quarterfinal series with the Battlefords North Stars. This momentum would translate to Weyburn scoring the first goal of the game. A four-goal performance from Kian Bell, though, would help the North Stars rally to take the second game 5-2, even the series up at a game each.

Heading into game 1 of the best-of-seven quarterfinal series between the Battlefords North Stars and the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, many pundits around the league had already pencilled in the North Stars as the team that would advance after a four-game sweep. After all, the North Stars only lost five games in regulation all season and spent most of the regular season as the top-ranked team in the country.

With a group of fans cheering them on, and an escort to the city limits from the Weyburn Police Service, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings departed for North Battleford Thursday afternoon, ahead of the start of their best-of-seven quarterfinal series with the North Stars Friday night.  

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings found themselves knotted up 1-1 with the Estevan Bruins heading into the third period of the final regular season game Monday night. The Bruins, though, would find a way to score three goals in the third period to lift themselves to a 4-2 victory and capture the Highway 39 Cup by a single point.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings close out the regular season Monday night, as they welcome the Estevan Bruins to town. While the game won’t have a lot of impact on the standings, it will have a lot of importance thanks to the Highway 39 Cup, a wager between the police chiefs of Weyburn and Estevan, and the pride of both teams when it comes to the season series.
