SJHL recognition: Cade Meiklejohn claims MVP honours

For the third time this season, a member of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings has been named the SJHL's MVP of the Week.

After a seven-goal performance over three games, forward Cade Meiklejohn received the honours. The Leduc, Alberta native started off the week with a two-goal performance against the Humboldt Broncos last Tuesday. He followed it up with a hat trick against the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday and then potted two more goals in a big 8-5 win over the Estevan Bruins on Saturday. He also added an assist to his totals.

Community collaboration leads to generous donation

The Weyburn Red Wings and Humboldt Broncos faced off at Crescent Point Place on Tuesday night, resulting in a fiery match and a tough 6-8 loss for the home team. Although fans may argue whether Blaricom's or Ruthven's injuries deserved a call from the Refs, or whether the resulting scrum was worthwhile for the opposing teams, all in attendance will surely agree that the pre-game spotlights featuring a generous donation to The Family Place were worth the price of admission.

Flin Flon onslaught: Red Wings overwhelmed at showcase

The week started off for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings with a trade announcement, some good news when it comes to the SJHL's players of the week, and then a game against the Flin Flon Bombers to open up the SJHL Showcase in Warman.

The trade announcement was that 03-born defenseman Nolan Henderson had been moved to the Melfort Mustangs. In exchange for Henderson, the Red Wings got back a player development fee and a second-round pick in the 2024 draft.

Maharaj's heroics not enough in Red Wings' 5-3 loss

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were hoping to close out their trip to the Battlefords with two more points, after falling 4-3 in a shootout Friday night to the North Stars. Despite the efforts of Jerome Maharaj, who scored a pair of goals, the Red Wings would end up on the short end of the scoreboard, losing 5-3.

The North Stars would be the first to get on the board when Josh Medernach beat Eric Kahl just 1:38 into the first period, but Weyburn would answer back.

With the win, Weyburn is now back atop the Viterra Division, one point up on the Melville Millionaires.
