Hodson shines, but Red Wings lose shootout to Mustangs
When it comes to a shootout, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings haven't had the best of luck. They have had eleven games go to extra time this season and seven of those to a shootout. The Red Wings have yet to lose a game in overtime, but when it comes to the shootout, they have come out on the winning side just once this year.
Weyburn Red Wings drop nail-biter to Melfort Mustangs
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered Tuesday night's game looking to pick up two crucial points in the SJHL playoff race as the Melfort Mustangs came to Crescent Point Place. The Mustangs, though, had different plans. They held onto a lead coming out of the first period for a 6-5 victory.
The first period of the game would see the two teams combine for eight goals, with Melfort taking a 5-3 lead. Brayden Westerlund from the Mustangs got the scoring started just 1:20 into the game, but Weyburn answered just 20 seconds later.
SJHL's dominance continues: Team Blue wraps up near sweep
The final game of the SJHL/MJHL Showcase, played Wednesday evening in Winnipeg, would be another win for the SJHL, as they captured five of the six games at the event. The U18 Team Blue from Saskatchewan would take an early lead over Manitoba’s Team White, thanks in part to Cade Meiklejohn of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, and went on to a 5-2 victory.
SJHL/MJHL Showcase: Team Blue claims victory
The U18 teams at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase took to the ice last night. The SJHL’s Team Blue, which includes Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings Forward Cade Meiklejohn, would take a 3-0 lead, and hold on for a 3-2 victory.
The SJHL took the lead with 7:39 to play in the first period, when Anthony McIntosh, who plays for the Yorkton Terriers, scored. Koen Senft, who skates with the Flin Flon Bombers, and Humboldt’s Ben Costantino had the assists on the goal.
Weyburn's Maharaj shines as SJHL tops MJHL in showcase opener
A goal from Jerome Maharaj of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings gave the SJHL’s Team Gold the lead in the opening game of the SJHL/MJHL Showcase Tuesday afternoon, and the rest of the team didn’t look back as they went on to top the MJHL’s Team Red 5-2.
The SJHL opened the scoring 4:47 into the game when Aidan Hutchison, who plays for the Melfort Mustangs, put the puck in past MJHL netminder Malachi Klassen. Ryan Duguay had the assist on the goal.
Weyburn Red Wings edged by Millionaires in close battle
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings and Melville Millionaires exchanged the lead four times during Saturday's game in Melville. It would be the Millionaires, though, who held the lead last, as they scored the game winner with 38 seconds remaining to beat the Wings 5-4. The loss would also bump the Red Wings out of the final playoff spot, but with 18 games remaining on the schedule, they still have a lot of opportunity to make up the ground.
Melville opened the scoring in the first period when Evan Mayer scored a power play goal 8:26 into the game.
Close battle in Weyburn as Broncos take down Red Wings
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered Thursday night’s game looking to extend their point streak to four games. Their opponents, the Humboldt Broncos, were looking to break a three-game losing streak. In the end, despite the Red Wings throwing everything they could at Broncos starting goalie Benjamin Motew, Humboldt came away with a 3-2 victory.
SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre addresses impact of Alberta teams leaving the CJHL
Over the weekend, the independent British Columbia Hockey League announced five teams from the Alberta Junior Hockey League would be joining for the 2024-25 season. The announcement the Blackfalds Bulldogs, Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders and Spruce Grove Saints would be leaving came as a surprise to most, especially the AJHL, who learned about the change through the media release from the BCHL.
The move also sent ripples throughout Junior A hockey across Canada.

The winning streak for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings ended at two games Saturday night. Still, the team remained unbeaten in regulation in their past three, after the Kindersley Klippers stymied the Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout at Crescent Point Place.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into Friday night's game against the Kindersley Klippers looking to make it two wins in a row, and to end the two-game winning streak of the Klippers. A pair of goals each from Matthew Hodson and Carter Briltz lifted the Red Wings to the win, as they skated to a 5-2 victory.
