More honours for Red Wings

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are riding a four-game winning streak, and the efforts of two players over the past week were recognized by the SJHL on Monday.  

Forward Jerome Maharaj was named the SJHL’s Forward of the Week. The 04-born from Edmonton finished last week with five points – all assists – in two games as the Red Wings recorded wins over Yorkton and Notre Dame. So far this season, Maharaj has notched 43 points in 28 games and leads the league in assists with 35.  

Weyburn's offense explodes in third period comeback

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into the game Saturday night against the Notre Dame Hounds with a three-game winning streak. After 40 minutes, it appeared the Red Wings were in danger of having their streak snapped. Four goals in the third period would turn their fortunes around, and the Red Wings came away with a 6-4 victory, and first place in the Viterra Division. 

Red Wings remain undefeated in 2025 with win in Yorkton

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are now within three points of the Yorkton Terriers for 1st in the Viterra Division after picking up two crucial points over the Terriers Sunday afternoon in Yorkton. The Red Wings would come back from a 1-0 first period deficit to win 3-2.  

“I thought the guys battled hard,” head coach Cody Mapes said after the game. The team would spend the majority with a shortened bench after defenseman Simon Martin left 10 minutes into the game.  

Shutout and a show as Red Wings dominate Bruins in feisty affair

In their first game back from the Christmas break, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came out with a statement game against their Highway 39 rivals, the Estevan Bruins. Playing at Affinity Place in Estevan, the Red Wings would get two goals in the first period, and then held on for a 3-0 victory - the second time the Wings have shut out the Bruins by that score this season. 

"We obviously hadn't played yet, and so it was good to see the guys get involved physically right away, and shake the rest off," head coach Cody Mapes said after the game.

Dazza departs: Red Wings bid farewell to fan favourite

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings made a big move Friday, as they announced the trade of 20-year-old goaltender Dazza Mitchell to the Humboldt Broncos. 

Mitchell, who joined the Red Wings as a 17-year-old in 2021, appeared in 116 games, 104 in the regular season, for Weyburn. He posted five shutouts throughout his time with the club, with a 3.21 GAA and a .909 save percentage. 

Mapes to lead SJHL stars: Weyburn coach heads to Showcase

The SJHL announced the coaching staff for the upcoming SJHL/MJHL Showcase, which is scheduled to be held in Winnipeg later this month.  

Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes has been named one of the three bench bosses for the tournament, which will be held on January 28th and 29th. It has not been announced at this time which of the three SJHL teams Mapes will be coaching.  

▶️Red Wings back on home ice with a vengeance

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings made their return to Crescent Point Place Thursday night, after spending a month displaced issues with the ice plant. While they were tied with the Humboldt Broncos 2-2 after 40 minutes, they made a statement in the third period, scoring five goals in the final frame en route to a 7-3 victory.  

Red Wings' Assiniboia stay ends with loss

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to finish their time in Assiniboia on a winning note Tuesday as they entertained the Yorkton Terriers at the Southland Co-op Centre. The Terriers, though, had other plans as they handed the Red Wings a 4-1 loss, jumping ahead of Weyburn for first in the Viterra Division.  

Despite the loss, Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes wasn’t too upset about the effort in the game.
