Red Wings find billets, ice time in Assiniboia

For the next 10 days, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will call Assiniboia 90 minutes west of Weyburn along Highway 13, home as repairs are made to the ice plant at Crescent Point Place and Tom Zandee Sports Arena.  

For head coach and general manager Cody Mapes, the work on preparing for this move started shortly after the announcement the arenas would be closed for the rest of the calendar year. A call went out to people in Assiniboia to see what could be done.  

North Stars ground Red Wings in second game of the weekend

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came away from North Battlefords with just two points after they fell 9-3 in the second game of the weekend Saturday night. The North Stars would take advantage of the power play, scoring on three of their ten man-advantages, en route to the victory.  

Anthony Campbell opened up the scoring for the North Stars 2:49 into the game with a power play goal, but then the Red Wings gained some momentum.  

Weyburn's winning ways return with shootout victory over North Stars

It would take a shootout, but the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings got back into the win column Friday night, as they opened a trip to North Battleford with a 5-4 win over the North Stars. Jerome Marahaj, Lucas Schmid, and Ethan Dekay had a goal and an assist each in the win, with Dekay getting the game-winner in the shootout. Meanwhile, Angelo Zol stopped 41 of the 45 shots he faced to earn the victory between the pipes. 

Highway 39 Cup heats up as Bruins edge Red Wings in overtime

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings took to the ice for the first time in 14 days Saturday night, after three of the games in that span were postponed – one due to weather and two due to ice plant issues at Crescent Point Place. They travelled to Estevan for the first time this season, looking to improve the season record to 2-0 against their Highway 39 rivals.  

Red Wings show resilience despite second loss to North Stars

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings dropped their second game in a row to the Battlefords North Stars Saturday night. The Battleofrds would score two goals in the third period to pull away for a 4-3 victory.

The loss, coupled with a Melfort Mustangs win, moved the Red Wings to second in the SJHL, but they still hold a three-point lead over the Estevan Bruins for first place in the Viterra Division.

Red Wings suffer first regulation loss since October

For the first time since October 4th, the Richardson Pioneer found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard at the end of regulation Friday night, as they fell 4-3 to the visiting Battlefords North Stars at Crescent Point Place. 

"Lots of guys started off moving their feet, and just weren't finding that puck luck, just weren't earning those puck battles and those puck races," said Red Wings assistant coach Willy Mason after the game.
