Weyburn Red Wings bring fun and games with annual Calcutta Shootout
This coming weekend, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will be hosting their annual Parent-Billet Weekend. In addition to the festivities surrounding the games, the team will also be holding their annual Calcutta Shootout.
“It’s your usual thing that we do here,” explained Nick Nielsen with the Red Wings. “We’ve got all of our Red Wings coming out, all of our coaching staff is going to be shooting, all that kind of stuff, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Goals galore: Weyburn Red Wings bounce back with convincing win
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into their game against the Notre Dame Hounds in Assiniboia Tuesday night on a three-game losing skid and were looking to turn things around to prepare for the playoff push. A pair of goals from Jaxon Ruthven, clutch goaltending from Dazza Mitchell, and a game-winner from Braigh LeGrandeur would lift the Red Wings to a 5-3 victory, ending the skid at three, and extending Notre Dame's to seven.
Short-benched start: Red Wings face tough weekend challenges
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were hoping to get back into the win column when they played a pair of games on the weekend at Crescent Point Place. The La Ronge Ice Wolves and Yorkton Terriers had other plans, though, as Weyburn would come up short in both games.

Wednesday was a busy day across the SJHL, as the trade deadline had all the teams looking to make a move or two to shore up their rosters heading into the final half of the season. The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were no exception, as they made a number of moves.
One of the biggest trades announced by the Red Wings was the acquisition of 20-year-old blueliner Colin Doherty. Originally from Gurnee, Illinois, he was with the Amarillo Wranglers of the NAHL.
FINAL UPDATE: Red Wings make moves at trade deadline
The CJHL roster deadline is here, and today is the last day teams will be able to make trades and signings. The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, who are looking to add the right piece or two ahead of the push for the playoffs, announced one trade this morning.
They acquired 03-born defenceman Colin Doherty from the Amarillo Wranglers of the NAHL, in exchange for a PDF. Doherty has played 33 games this season, scoring two goals and adding eight assists.
Melville Millionaires stage comeback, beat Red Wings at CPP
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered Tuesday night's game against the Melville Millionaires with a record of 5-0-0-1 when entering the third period with the lead this season. The Millionaires, though, were intent on ending that streak heading into the third period Tuesday as they trailed 4-3. They would score three goals, including an empty-netter, en route to a 6-4 win at Crescent Point Place.
Red Wings soar: Weyburn secures Highway 39 Cup with win over Estevan
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings started 2024 off on the right foot, as they clinched the Highway 39 Cup with a 3-2 win over the Estevan Bruins Friday night. The win also vaulted Weyburn into sole possession of first place in the Viterra Division
It would be the Bruins, however, who were first on the board, as Daniel Tokariwski scored at the 7:35 mark of the opening period to give Estevan the lead. Weyburn, though, was eager to get the goal back and would do so by the end of the period.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings return to the ice tonight, after a lengthy Christmas break that started after a 4-2 win at home over the Yorkton Terriers on December 16th. They will be hosting the Estevan Bruins at Crescent Point Place as the Highway 39 rivalry resumes with the fourth meeting of the year between the two squads.
Monette stars again: Red Wings top Yorkton to claim first heading into break
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings closed out the first half of the SJHL season in style, as they picked up two key points at home against the Yorkton Terriers with a 4-2 win Saturday night. The victory also put the Red Wings back into first place in the Viterra Division with a .500 record of 12-12-0-4.
The win was the first of the season for netminder Angelo Zol, who was appearing in just his second game wearing the Winged Wheel. He turned aside 32 shots to earn the win.
Late drama unfolds: Hunchak's empty-netter secures Wings victory
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into Friday night's game against the Humboldt Broncos in a bit of a slump. They hadn't picked up a win in December and were winless in their last three. The squad was hoping they could break the skid in the final road game of the calendar year but would be up against a formidable opponent, as the Broncos had won both of the previous matchups this season, including a 10-1 win in Humboldt in October.
