Rested Weyburn Red Wings ready for Klippers clash

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will be back in action Wednesday night when they head to Kindersley to take on the Klippers. The Wings have been off since October 28th, when they fell 9-2 to the Battlefords North Stars at Crescent Point Place. The break came at a good time for the team, though, said head coach Cody Mapes.

Safety first: CJHL mandates protective neck guards for all players

The Canadian Junior Hockey League, which includes the 12 teams of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, announced Friday that certified protective neck guards will be mandatory equipment for all players effective immediately, dependent on the availability of equipment. The neck guards will be worn for all on-ice activities, including games and practices.

The decision was reached unanimously by the CJHL's nine members.

Scoring frenzy for Red Wings at Crescent Point Place

For the first time since October 14th, 2016, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings picked up a win at home over the Battlefords North Stars, and they did so in dominant fashion. Seven different players scored as the Red Wings doubled up the North Stars 10-5. The win improved the Wings to 7-3-0-3 on the season, as they expanded their lead over the Melville Millionaires for the top spot in the Viterra Division to three points.

Red Wings outlast Terriers for second straight win

Dating back to the preseason, the last four times the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings played the Yorkton Terriers, overtime or a shootout would be needed to determine the winner. The two teams split the two games in the preseason and then split the home-and-home to kick off the regular season.

Saturday night, the two teams would again play to a one-goal finish, but this time, they wouldn't need extra time, as the Red Wings skated to a 5-4 victory for their second win in a row.

Monette leads Red Wings to dominant victory

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings got back into the win column Friday night and did it in dominant fashion. Led by a three-goal performance from captain Max Monette, and three shorthanded goals, the Red Wings skated to a 6-2 win over the Nipawin Hawks at Crescent Point Place.

"I think that we really just played together as a whole tonight, and it showed," Monette said after the game. "We could roll lines and tired the other team, and we just kept the pedal to the floor and kept going every single shift."

Weyburn Red Wings' winless streak continues

When the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings took the ice against the Notre Dame Hounds Wednesday night, the game would end with one of the two teams ending a winless streak. The Red Wings were looking for their first win since October 3rd, when, fittingly enough, they beat the Hounds 5-1. Meanwhile, Notre Dame was looking for their first win of the season, starting the campaign with nine straight losses.

Weyburn Red Wings eager to bounce back

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will be looking to bounce back tonight after a rough stretch in the past week. The Wings have picked up just two of a possible eight points in their last four games, and haven’t won since October October 3rd, when they topped the Notre Dame Hounds 5-1 at Crescent Point Place.

With the Hounds again coming to town, they will be looking to get back into the win column, and keeping a hold on first place in the Viterra Division.
