Police investigating fatal Edmonton collision
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal crash between three vehicles that happened over the weekend in northeast Edmonton.
On Sunday (July 16) afternoon, a 41-year-old woman driving a 2007 Toyota Matrix was travelling down 153 Avenue. When she approached the intersection of 66 Street there was a collision between the Matrix and a 2015 Toyota Rav4, driven by a 47-year-old female with an 86-year-old passenger.
The collision caused the Matrix to also collide with a third vehicle.
2023 Calgary Stampede one of the largest ever
There was a huge turnout at the Calgary Stampede this year. So many people came out to enjoy the rodeo that it almost broke a record in attendance.
According to officials at the stampede, 1,384,632 people attended the event this year, with over 125,000 people attending the event every single day.
This total turnout is larger than the populations of Fort Saskatchewan, Lamont County, Sturgeon County, Strathcona County, St. Albert, and Edmonton combined.
Police looking for suspect in series of north Edmonton arsons
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is asking the public for their help in identifying a suspected arsonist.
Police say that a suspect is alleged to have set multiple fires in the Delwood neighbourhood in north Edmonton last month.
The first series of fires were reported during the early morning hours of June 5th. This incident resulted in significant damage to six detached garages in Delwood.
The second incident happened on June 10th when a fire was started behind a residential garage near 128 Avenue and 72 Street.
RCMP investigating Fort Saskatchewan child abduction
Fort Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a child abduction that took place in the city earlier this week.
Police say that on Monday, a 6-year-old boy who was playing outside was approached by a delivery driver.
The driver offered to bring to the boy to a 7-11 convenience store with the promise of candy and a Slurpee. The victim was brought to the store and various items were purchased before the driver returned to the boy back to his home safely.
The boy then alerted their parent about what happened, who then called the police.
Canada's Inflation rate decreasing; high grocery prices sticking
The country's inflation rate has hit its lowest point since 2021.
New data released by Statistics Canada shows that the rate hit 2.8 per cent in June, which is the first time it has dropped below 3 per cent since March 2021.
In Alberta, the inflation rate dropped to 1.9 per cent according to Statistic Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks the price changes of various products and services.

Heavy rainfall expected in the area
Environment Canada has sent out a rainfall warning for Monday (July 17) evening.
According to the warning, heavy rain will begin this evening and may exceed 50mm before the rain leaves the area.
Heavy rain can lead to water pooling on roads, and even flash floods.
The rainfall warning applies to:
- Fort Saskatchewan
- Sherwood Park
- Edmonton
- St. Albert
- Sturgeon County
- Lamont County
The rain is expected to taper off Tuesday afternoon.
Sherwood Park Titans bring home gold in provincials
The U17 women's Sherwood Park Titans lacrosse team brought home provincial gold over the weekend.
The girls competed at provincials, which took place in Leduc, against the Beaumont Raiders and the Calgary Fury.
Team Manager Tanis Andree said that they almost didn't compete at all.
"Six of them are in summer school, and our first game was on Friday at 8:30," Andree said. "But the girls made special arrangements with their teachers and pulled it together. Instead of pulling out, we ended up winning the gold, which was pretty amazing."
New mural displays diversity in Fort Saskatchewan
Local artist Ashley Rosenow has just completed a new mural in downtown Fort Saskatchewan.
Located at 9803 102 Street, right next to Paraclete Psychology, this mural features a variety of different plants, flowers, and symbols.
Rosenow stated that each of them was deliberately chosen to represent the newcomers to the community. For example, The lavender represents Portugal, while the plum blossom represents China.
There are also symbols within the letters on the mural as well, representing Ukraine, the Philippines, India, and Columbia respectively.
Clearing the backlog at the ports will take time
It's going to take weeks to clear the backlog of traffic that was stagged as a result of the B.C. port strike.
A lot of cargo is sitting waiting to be loaded onto vessels and moved out of the port.
CN's assistant vice president of grain, David Przednowek says the recent strike caused a number of delays for traffic flow.
