UK's entry into the CPTPP raises concerns
Canada's red meat sector is raising concerns over the potential for the UK's entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
On Saturday, Canada's Minister of Trade Mary Ng announced they had agreed to grant the United Kingdom accession.
The Canadian Meat Council, Canadian Cattle Association, and the Canadian Pork Council are deeply disappointed with the move.
Search underway for man caught in North Saskatchewan River
Emergency crews are searching for a man who fell into the North Saskatchewan River over the weekend.
On Sunday, at about 3:30 p.m., Devon RCMP received reports of a person struggling in the river. That person was later identified as 20-year-old Austin Laporte, a resident of Beaumont.
The RCMP, along with fire departments from Devon, Parkland, and Edmonton, have deployed multiple boats and drones to survey the river but have yet to locate Laporte.
Redwater RCMP arrest man for alleged break-and-enter
Redwater RCMP have arrested a man for an alleged break-and-enter in rural Sturgeon County.
On June 6, police report that they responded to a complaint at about 2 a.m. from a resident saying that two men had driven onto their property, exited their vehicle and had begun walking toward the resident's vehicle.
Officer say that the resident turned on his yard light which caused the men to flee in their vehicle. During this attempted escape, the vehicle slid into the ditch and became stuck.
Update: Missing Edmonton senior found safe
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has located a missing senior.
65-year-old Johnny Simpson was reported missing in northwest Edmonton after being last seen walking on Saturday night.
Simpson's family was concerned for his well-being as he suffered from dementia and could appear confused at times.
On Monday morning, police reported that they had located Simpson safe and sound.
Smoke causing very poor air quality in region
The region is experiencing one of its worst cases of wildfire smoke of 2023.
A special air quality statement was sent out on Sunday (July 16) morning warning people to try to limit their time spent outside.
The Fort Air Partnership is expecting the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) to reach nine at some point today. This is only two levels away from being considered very high risk.

Lamont County firefighters receive provincial honour
Two Lamont County fire chiefs received provincial recognition.
Back in late May, Charlie Gargus and Al Lenkewich were both honoured at the Alberta Fire Chief Association (AFCA) conference for their 20-year membership.
Though honoured for the 20-year mark, both men have actually been in the county for much longer.
Gargus started working with Lamont County Emergency Services in 1985.
Mike Stelter, father of late Oilers superfan, diagnosed with cancer
The Stelter family is facing some more bad news.
Mike Stelter, the father of late Oilers superfan Ben Stelter, announced on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that he had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer growing on his spine.
"I was having back pains and with an MRI the doctors found a tumour growing on my spine," said Mike in the tweet. "We have to travel to the US for treatment because it’s not available in Canada."
This cancer diagnosis comes a little less than a year after the family lost Ben to a form of brain cancer.
Gibbons bottle depot closing temporarily
The Gibbons bottle depot will be closing temporarily towards the end of the month.
Starting this week the depot will be open on Monday and Tuesday before closing from July 19 to July 22. The week after is the same, but with the depot being closed from July 27 to July 31.
The reason for this temporary closure is due to the weddings of the staff members families.
"Our presence is mandatory, and we would like to apologize in advance for the inconveniences these closures may cause for our customers," wrote the depot in a release.
Court grants temporary injunction to end Winnipeg landfill blockade
A Manitoba judge has granted a temporary injunction to end a blockade at a Winnipeg landfill, where dozens of protesters have blocked the main road demanding a search of a different landfill north of the city for the remains of two slain Indigenous women.
Justice Sheldon Lanchbery says demonstrators can continue to protest at the Brady Road landfill but they cannot block the road.
RCMP: Man allegedly robs St. Albert Canadian Tire at knife point
St. Albert RCMP has charged a man with robbery after an incident at a Canadian Tire.
On Wednesday (July 12), Canadian Tire staff confronted a man who they thought was shoplifting. The man was reported to have brandished a knife and threatened customers as he left the store.
Police responded to the robbery, locating the suspect in the green space behind St. Albert Centre.
