Fort Saskatchewan RCMP looking to return lost property

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is looking to return some found property. 

Police recovered an older-looking briefcase in mid-September on Highway 29 in Lamont County. The briefcase contained several personal items, none of which had any identifying information. 

RCMP would like to return the items to the rightful owner and is asking anybody who believes that the briefcase belongs to them to contact the detachment at 780-997-7900.

Callers will be required to provide a description of the contents to verify that they are the owner. 

Strathcona County RCMP locates missing man

Strathcona County RCMP has located a missing 88-year-old. 

A missing person report that lasted under 24 hours said that Wallace Klinck had gone missing after last being seen walking in Sherwood Park at about 2 p.m. on Sept. 20. 

"Strathcona County RCMP are pleased to report that Wallace Klinck has been located safe. We would like to thank the public and media for their assistance," said the police in a release. 

There was a concern for Klinck's safety after initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful. 

Today marks the first official day of fall

Farmers across the prairies are hoping for some good weather as they wrap up the harvest.

There's a wide variety of sources where people go for the weather. 

A popular source for many years has been the Old Farmer's Almanac, given its long range forecasts.

According to the Almanac the rest of this month we can expect it to be about a degree cooler than normal and ever so slightly wetter than normal.

Jack Burnett, the Managing Editor says October, should be three degrees warmer with about average precipitation, and then we get into winter.

Stats Canada says Canada's homeownership rate fell in latest 2021 census release

Canada's homeownership rate is on the decline, with young adults in particular less likely to own a home in 2021 than they were a decade earlier, says Statistics Canada.

According to the latest census release, 66.5 per cent of Canadians owned a home in 2021, down from a peak of 69 per cent in 2011.

Housing prices have climbed considerably in recent years compared with Canadians' incomes. Statistics Canada says while the median household income grew by 18 per cent between 2016 and 2021, the average value of an owner-occupied home rose by 39.6 per cent. 

De Havilland Canada to build airline manufacturing plant east of Calgary

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd. announced plans Wednesday to build a new aircraft manufacturing plant east of Calgary that could eventually employ up to 1,500 people. 

The company said the facility, dubbed De Havilland Field, is to be located in Wheatland County between the communities of Chestermere and Strathmore. De Havilland said it has acquired about 600 hectares of land in the area.

It said construction could begin as early as next year, with its first buildings operational by 2025 — though the project's full buildout could take years.

Alberta policing webinar aims to answer burning questions

The Alberta Provincial Government hosted the second of their The Future Of Alberta Policing webinar series.

The series aims to cover various aspects of the potential transition in detail, as well as answer questions from Albertans.

This latest entry featured former minister of public security and solicitor general of Alberta Harvey Cenaiko, as well as representatives from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), who carried out the Alberta Provincial Police Service (APPS) transition study.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP charge two with excessive speeding

Two drivers on an area highway were pulled over for excessive speeding.

At around 5 a.m. on Sept. 9, a Fort Saskatchewan RCMP officer was monitoring Highway 15 at the Old Fort Trail when they clocked a driver travelling at 164 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. Ten days later, at the same time and location, a different driver was clocked going 161 km/hr.

According to police, both drivers were charged under the Traffic Safety Act and a required to appear in court next month.
