If you've noticed a yellow bag delivered to your doorstep in the last few days, here's what to do with it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organizing the City-Wide Food Drive for the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank this week.

Volunteers have already delivered yellow bags to all residences (excluding apartments). Residents are encouraged to fill these bags with non-perishable food items and to leave these filled bags outside their front doors before 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 24). Volunteers will be by to pick up the bags.

It's been a busy year for the food bank. Even though over 18,000 pounds of food was donated last year, executive director Kassandra Gartner says that demand is even higher this year.

"We are seeing a significant increase in our client usage; it's growing every month," Gartner said. "We really need the donations to meet the demand."

Items such as canned fruit and meats, healthy cereal, pasta, and toilet paper are all in high demand.

The early fall is one of the busiest times for the food bank next to Christmas and the new year.

The food bank is always looking for volunteers. Those interested in helping out can reach out by filling out the contact form on their website.
