What does the food bank need for the start of school?

With school getting underway, the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank is in need of some items.

The three busiest times of the year for the food bank are Christmas, a new year, and the start of school.

Kassandra Gartner, executive director for the food bank, says items that the food bank needs the most are healthy cereal, jam, rice, pasta, crackers and cookies.

"We serve a lot of families. 44 per cent of who we serve are youth, so we're always looking for school snacks. The nut-free granola bars, the fruit cups, the pudding cups," Gartner said.

Repairs on the Highway 15 pedestrian bridge in Fort Saskatchewan will start on Tuesday (Sept. 6).

The bridge has been closed since a vehicle carrying a large load hit the structure on July 21, causing damage.

Weather permitting, the bridge will reopen in four to six weeks.

During the school year, Rudolph Hennig Junior High School students use the walkway as a main route to and from the school.
