Flags at provincial government buildings in Saskatchewan are at half-mast as the manhunt continues for two suspects in a stabbing rampage on a First Nation and in a nearby village that left 10 people dead and 15 others injured.

The attacks took place at 13 different locations on the James Smith Cree Nation and nearby Weldon, northeast of Saskatoon, with police getting the first reports on the First Nation before 6 a.m. Sunday.

A dangerous persons alert remains in effect from Alberta to Manitoba for Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30.

RCMP looking for suspects after 10 dead, 15 injured in stabbings in Saskatchewan

A stabbing rampage on a Saskatchewan First Nation and in a nearby village left 10 people dead and 15 others injured, provincial RCMP said Sunday as officers continued to search for two suspects in the case.

“We believe some of the victims have been targeted by the suspects and others have been attacked randomly,” Rhonda Blackmore, the assistant commissioner in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP, told reporters in Regina.

“It is horrific what has occurred in our province today.”  

Update: RCMP provide update on suspects that triggered Dangerous Person Alert

On September 5, the RCMP confirmed one of the two suspects was found dead. Damien Sanderson was found deceased on the James Smith Cree Nation.

Police continue their search for two suspects.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, the police received a report the suspects may be travelling in the Arcola Ave area around 11:45 a.m. in Regina in a black, Nissan Rogue with license plate 119 MPI.

Update: Dangerous Person Alert extended to Alberta

An RCMP alert is being extended to Manitoba and Alberta.

A Dangerous Person Alert is in place after multiple stabbing incidents were reported on Sunday (Sept. 4) in various locations, including James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Saskatchewan.

Police say the two male suspects are named Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson.

Damien is 5'7" and 155 lbs with black hair, and brown eyes. Myles is 6'1" and 240 lbs with brown hair.

Special air quality statement for Fort Saskatchewan area

Smoke is drifting into central Alberta, leaving the sky hazy and prompting Environment Canada to issue a special air quality statement.

The weather agency has put the advisory in place for communities such as Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Bruderheim, Lamont, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Redwater and Morinville. 

The statement was issued this morning (Sept. 4).

Canadian astronaut Saint-Jacques says Artemis 1 delay disappointing, but right call

Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques says today's decision to scrub the launch of NASA's new moon rocket is disappointing but necessary due to another leak found ahead of the planned test flight.

The Artemis 1 rocket sprang another fuel leak, forcing controllers to call off the second attempt this week to send a crew capsule with test dummies aboard into lunar orbit.

The first attempt on Monday was also aborted due to escaping hydrogen elsewhere on the 98-metre NASA-built rocket.

Police investigating after shots fired at Sherwood Park business

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, Strathcona County RCMP responded to a 911 call from a cannabis retailer after employees heard gun shots.

When RCMP responded, it was confirmed that there were bullet holes in the front window.

The two employees, who were in the store at the time, were not injured. 

Police say the business is located on Blackfoot Road.
