New details emerging in the case of Edmonton teen found in Oregon

According to the Edmonton Police Service, the 13-year-old girl who was found in Oregon early Saturday morning (July 2) had made contact with the man she was found with over a social media platform.

The teenager disappeared while going to school in Edmonton on June 24. According to a social media post from her father, camera footage showed that she did not arrive at school that morning. 

Police looking for thieves who stole firefighting equipment

Strathcona County RCMP is investigating a break and enter at the Ardrossan fire hall.

At some point between 9 p.m. on Jun. 23 and 11:30 a.m. on Jun. 27, the Ardrossan fire hall was broken into through the back entrance. 

Police say the thieves stole several pieces of unique firefighting equipment valued at around $36,000.

'We found our family here' Ukrainians flock to the Fort

It's been a fast-paced few weeks for one Ukrainian family.

Dmytro Ilkov and Daria Babaieva arrived in early June via Poland; they had been living there previous to the war with their now eight-month-old daughter. After a brief layover in Toronto, they arrived in Fort Saskatchewan on June 8.

"[We came] because we found a great host family," Daria explained. "We were looking for a family in Edmonton, near cities, and we found our family here in the Fort." 

Missing teenager found in Oregon

A missing 13-year-old was found in Oregon this morning.

The teenager disappeared while going to school in Edmonton on June 24. According to a social media post from her father, camera footage showed that she did not arrive at school that morning. 

The authorities found the girl in the States with a 41-year-old Oregon man. The man is in custody and will be facing charges of child luring, and additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

Elk Island Public Schools opens new land-based learning centre

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) held a grand opening last week for a new land-based learning centre in Sherwood Park. 

According to EIPS, their purpose is two-fold. First, to offer a public space for students, staff and community members to come, connect and learn from the land. Second, to function as an ethical space to bring to life EIPS’ land acknowledgment and reaffirm treaty obligations.

Canadian meat industry pleased to see exemption in Front-of-Package labelling regulations

The following statement was issued Thursday by the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, Canadian Meat Council, Canadian Pork Council, and National Cattle Feeders' Association:

Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health announced the finalized Front-of-Package labelling regulations, part of the Government of Canada’s Healthy Eating Strategy. In the finalized regulations, ground beef and pork are exempt from the requirement of having a front-of-package warning label.
