Tick screening increases for Lyme Disease Awareness Month

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

One of the causes of Lyme disease is the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted through tick bites.

From 1991 to 2020, 132 human cases of Lyme disease were reported to Alberta Health. All of these cases had been acquired while travelling outside of the province.

Alberta Health Services says that microbiologists at Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) are increasingly analysing ticks found in the province for the presence of Lyme disease.

I'll miss you, Fort Saskatchewan

It's been a crazy couple of years.

When I first started working at MIX 107, I was a 17-year-old Grade 12 student at St. John Paul II (the last year it was a high school). I had no radio or professional writing experience, just a decent English mark and a passion for telling stories. I worked the evening show three times a week and occasionally chipped in with a news article or covering an event.

Almost five years later, I've told a lot of stories, and I am so grateful for that every day.

What to know about catalytic converter thefts

Catalytic converter thefts have been a problem in the area.

According to police, scrap metal thefts have been on the rise in the province of Alberta over the past few years.

"The main driver for scrap metal thieves is the prospect of turning over the metal for untraceable cash. Due to their value, non-ferrous metals have become a desired target of thieves looking to make a quick profit," said Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Constable Lauren Mowbray.
