A free fishing event in Fort Saskatchewan is sure to catch your eye.
On June 5, Kids Can Catch, run by the Alberta Conservation Association, is coming to Fort Lions Community Fish Pond.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., anyone, regardless of whether you have children, is welcome to come and learn the basics of fishing from volunteers.
Kids Can Catch will also have events like digging for worms, information sessions from fish and wildlife officers, water safety lessons, and much more.
“The Fort Lions Community Fish Pond was the perfect place to have it. It’s close enough to Sherwood Park and other areas around. It seems to be a really popular event [and] really great spot for people to come,” said Laura Volkman, event coordinator at the Alberta Conservation Association.
Participants with their own equipment are encouraged to bring it, but loaner rods will be available to borrow if you don't have anything.
Registration is strongly encouraged to attend and can be done on the Kids Can Catch website.
One of the sponsors who will be at Kids Can Catch is Rig-A-Jig. They are a local bait shop that will be on-site to showcase a variety of fishing gear and help out wherever they are needed.
“The more people you can get out there to utilise these events, that's great for the community. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people [and] build news skills,” said Kyle Robertson, owner of Rig-A-Jig Bait Shop.
Alberta Sportfishing Regulations apply to this event.
