Fort High students take initiative to bring school together in honour of Ukraine
Students of Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) are showing their support for Ukraine.
On Tuesday (Mar. 1), students and staff in all of the schools were encouraged to wear blue and yellow to stand in solidarity with the European country.

Woman missing for two months believed to be in local area
Police are trying to find a missing woman.
On Tuesday (Mar.1), RCMP was informed that 28-year-old Roslyn Gambler was missing. She'd last been seen on Jan.1 in Calling Lake.
Police believe she is in the area around Edmonton.
Gambler is described as having a medium complexion, about 5'8" and 130 lbs, with brown eyes and brown hair.
If anyone has seen her or has information about her whereabouts, they are asked their local police.
Fort Saskatchewan man busted for weapons trafficking
A man has been charged after an operation between the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
Since April, the EPS Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) has been looking into 34-year-old Cody Cohoe for suspected gun trafficking.
According to police, Cohoe’s name first came up in 2017 when he reported a suspicious break-and-enter in Lloydminster, where two of his restricted guns were allegedly stolen. During that investigation, he bought an additional handgun.
Strathcona County Town Hall gives crime statistics, police priorities
Strathcona County residents got an inside look at policing in the county.
Thursday night (Mar.3), the RCMP and Enforcement Services hosted a virtual Town Hall meeting where they gave a presentation on policing in the county and let residents ask any questions they had.
Inspector Dale Kendall and director Tom Sutton covered the policing priorities of the county for the year. Their top three are traffic safety, crime reduction, and public engagement.
Between October and December, officers handed out 3,059 traffic tickets and 2,233 warning violations.
Government of Canada invests in organic industry
Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Marie-Claude Bibeau has announced funding of up to $770,000 for the Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) to support market development for organic products.
“Canada’s organic industry is one of our fastest growing sectors. These producers provide healthy and nutritious food to consumers across the country and, increasingly, around the world. Supporting the market development for organic products will further contribute to the growth of a more competitive and sustainable Canadian agricultural sector,” said Bibeau.
Seven businesses receive funding under Innovative Solutions Canada Program
On Friday, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced over $1 million in funding for seven businesses under the Innovative Solutions Canada (ISC) program.
A total of seven small businesses are each receiving up to $150,000 to advance automation and robotic technologies for solving challenges such as work productivity and labour shortages and operational efficiency in the agricultural sector.
Canada's Ukraine refugee plan praised, but questions raised about other war escapees
Canada's decision to welcome an unlimited number of Ukrainians to Canada on a temporary basis marks a positive and hopefully permanent change to the way the country handles major crises around the world, the Canadian Council for Refugees says.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced Canada would allow Ukrainians to apply for an expedited visa to stay for two years, without conditions like language requirements or labour market impact assessments.
Strathcona County happy to see progress with ambulance crisis
Work to improve the ambulance situation in Alberta is ongoing.
Over the last several months, there has been a considerable increase in the number of times resources are pulled out of Strathcona County and into different jurisdictions. While the need for EMS services has been growing over the last several years, the spike happened after the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.
This has created a huge strain on paramedics who often find themselves working with few breaks and in unfamiliar territory.
